What do you use?

I enjoy working with my hands and as such they get dirty, greasy, and dry. Sometimes the hand cleaners I use cause splitting of the skin at the tips of the fingers, and at the edge of the nail which is down right painful. I've used a variety of products, but the only one I remember liking was some green powder stuff, can't remember the name.

What hand cleaner do to you prefer when working on your car? In the garden?

Gloves are not for me.

Easiest thing I've fornd is olive oil.
First use a half oz. of olive oil to remove all the dirt. It will also dissolve grease, etc.
Then use liquid hand soap without water to breal up the oil's cohesion.
Then warm water takes it all away.
A friend of mine who is a house painter clued me in on the stuff.
It works.
Oh, and if the weather is making your fingers crack, just rub in plain old vasiline.
That works too.

My fave hand cleaner.

When my hands are dry and hurting I use a product called bag balm. It was designed for cows udders. It does not smell bad or prissy. It will soften up my skin real fast.

NAPA brand citrus orange with out the grit. Cleans good and wipes off with a paper towel if you don't have water available.

i have a mixture of purple cleaner, diesel and gas in my parts washer. Usually scrub up with that when I'm not wearing gloves.

Fast Orange w/pumice for dirtier work. Has aloe/lanolin/etc.

Try putting on a hand cream before you start. Helps the dirt not stick.

Yup. Most effective solution I've found. If you buy good ones they are minimal impact to dexterity.

Utter/balm cream I have not used, but certainly makes sense. Thanks for the insight.

The reason I ask stems from what ails me, and what might be a marketable mixture which I stumbled across. Imagine a drop about the size of a pen cap and some water removing nasty, gritty stuff, elbows to finger tips, and leaves a clean, refreshing feel.

I'd like to think it's far superior to what one can buy when feel matters.

I'm with Matt, I use Ivory, but the real secret is to not use water at first, just work the soap and then add tiny bit if water, work it some more, then rinse it all off.

Big fan of just wearing gloves when possible to avoid the dirt in the first place.

My brother keeps a thing of wood glue with him while out on his old shovel head. Says it works great to clean up with when there is no water or towels. Just rubs it on his hands and as it dries it crumbles off and takes the grime with it! Kinda like that Castrol hand cleaner available a few years ago....

I've never bought a hand cleaner requiring an equal amount of effort to become clean once again. It's time to send a few samples out to see how it's perceived by the masses.

I use Citrus Orange most of the time, but a trick I learned years ago works even better. Rub dish soap all over your hands then have someone pour a good amount of sugar on them. Work the sugar in until it gets all the grease then rinse. Your hands will feel great.
