You are spot on rcooled. And I hear laser removal hurts like hell. Not to mention the high cost.

What astonishes me is the tattoos of children's / spouses names down the arms.
What, are you not going to remember their names without cheat-notes? Do you need to be reminded that you have kids?
Also, the job / residence / partner you have at 40 will almost certainly be different to what you had at 18 (and for that you'll probably be entirely grateful), but you're still going to be happy with some fake "tribal" tattoo all down your right arm for your whole life??

I don't have tats, nothing against them. I don't get the people who tat their necks, faces, etc. and get HUGE earlobe piercing that will look like some African tribal thing for the rest of their life.

I guess they make millions in their own ventures and don't care what anyone else thinks.

When I graduated from college 35 y/o I got my hair cut and shaved my beard and tried to look as corporate as I could. Who would hire a long haired, bearded hippe-looking guy for an engineering position in 1979? Yeah sure it was my "right" to be able to express myself. It was also their "right" to hire whomever they wanted.

This is what I am talking about regarding the tat I got a quote on, granted if I was going to do it I was super serious, went to a high end shop with quality artist and I was going to have it custom (brother name, date of birth/death, and some kind of arm band to wrap it up) quoted at $300 (and above the sleeve out of sight).

How does a girl working at the 99 cent store afford a tat?

Yeah, I think there are a lot of folks out there that really don't care that much if someone has a tat but at the same time I think there are also a lot of folks out there who get them but don't get them in ways that are always exposed.

My boss always wheres a shirt with long sleeves and never rolls them up at work. He has tattoos but so long as his shirt is on they are all covered up. I have a lot of customers, typically IT or business folks who are the same way. They have them but during business hours they are positioned so that they can keep them to themselves. I do think that in the establishment it's still bad if you can't cover them up in business attire but one thing I think is a reality is that the establishment is getting smaller.

As an employer of artsy types, I see candidates who follow the fad of tats as a negative. i need creative people, not followers of fashion.

On my last beach holiday, I closely observed that the beautiful beautiful young girls coming out of Europe had NO tattoos. Very passe in their eyes to have tattoos.

I don't think one can work for Disney if there is a tatoo visible on you. I say good, lets keep it that way.

Good to hear that every woman hasn't fallen prey to the tramp stamp.

I've always thought it's just a 'look at me, I'm special' sign. Particularly when the wearer doesn't look like he walks the walk.

What looks cool is a guy who knows who he is and where he's going and has zero need for approval of those around him. THAT is some bad ass **** to see.

A small tattoo in a discrete spot I have no issue with - the people covering themselves I just can not understand - my wife hates them and when I see women with them all over or across their chests...... Turn off

I met a buddy for lunch at a the local Twin peaks restaurant last year. Every single waitress had tats. Most had a tramp stamps. Many had massive tats on their legs. I found it gross but I guess they find my opinion as important to them as theirs is to me.

I dislike tatts, especially on women. and will not date a woman that has them. Lots of my friends have them and I just shake my head. That said, it is their body, so they can do whatever they want to it.

"I want to get a tattoo so I can express my individuality... Just like all my friends"

Don't really like em, don't have em and won't get one ever. If someone else wants to buy into the whole "thug fashion" look, it's up to them but shouldn't be surprised when others consider them to be dumber and / or lower class than they actually might be.

If a MD dresses up like a bum he or she shouldn't be surprised to find others assuming they're a bum rather than an MD... Same situation. If you look like a thug / punk, don't be surprised if people treat you as such.
