First World Problem Epitomized

Please read with a upper crust accent in mind, "Locust Valley Lockjaw" if you will.

My wife and I head out Saturday to go kayak on the Potomac. All is well, Jeeves has settled the morning dishes and the day proceeds apace. All looks well, verdant on our stroll to the awaiting shells. There was a bit of a storm last eve, but all is right...

But, what is this. Dammit all, the ramp has gone missing! Jeeves!!!

My word.

Back to our regularly scheduled accent.

We get in the kayaks and it takes us about 15 minutes to find the missing parts of the ramp. We towed the remains ashore an tie it up on the beach. The next steps are to safely get it over the seawall. The white chair has been thee all summer, sunk, reminding me of the "Planet of the Apes".

First world problem but I thought I'd share. Best to all. Nice diversion on a slow Tuesday.

Every few years the floating dock at my Vermont house get loose and wanders away....

I just take the dinghy and head to the end of the lake at the beaver dam and grab it and tow it back to its home....

Can't do that on the Potomac I suppose..

Al-umini-um... have it redone in al-umini-um... doesn't rust or rot. Or concrete.

We will concrete on the lower half, tapered to the top. I'll need to wait until Spring.

I got ten years out of this one, about the same as the last, which is actually really good given the fact that nearly all wind and wave action (which can be intense) is onshore.

We actually use it a lot, so do my friends: small sailboats, John boats, kayaks Sea-Do's, etc. Direct access to the Potomac is pretty rare and it saves the sailors from having to spent an hour getting to open water.

I even let the help use it

Aren't you concerned that the river will just wash out underneath the concrete leaving the ramp to drop?

According to my neighbor, who does this for a living, concrete is better...I asked exactly the same question you did.

He said, and I quote: "Concrete is better".

Great neighbor. Folks across the creek from me had a few barges installing a few tons of stone and a pier the past week or so. Got me thinking until I got a quote. Ouch. Good luck.
