I'm not saying this is the case here, but you are supposed to put your mattress/couch/big items on the sidewalk.

You see, the carb bolts to a small "Y" manifold, but that manifold is only held to the heads via two hose clamps that compress a couple of o-rings. It's pretty free to just flop around and fall off until the aircleaner is bolted to the carb. The aircleaner is then supported by a rather substantial steel strap bolted to the back of it and running down to the forward cylinder tappet block mounting bolt. It's the only thing that adds any rigidity to the whole works, and the only thing that really keeps it all in place.

You should get that fixed, Denis. Oh, and how in the hell do you shift that thing with the shifter sticking straight up like that?
Ummm, that's the kick starter...

Pretty kickass old shovel sporty based vintage chop. Yeah, I'm an old Harley guy.
They pretty much end with shovels for me...

I stand corrected!!

Went back and looked at both pics. I guess he jockeys it. Odd side for a shifter.

Whatta POS. The front cylinder sure is running lean. I wonder how much power he has lost without the air cleaner.

I'm amazed people can ride crap like that and think they are having a good time.

He likely took off the air filter to save weight and make the bike faster. We all know how fast a Chopper Harley is.......

The guys around here stuff their bro-dana/do-rag in the carb, when parked.
It gets interesting when they "kick 'er over", having forgotten aforementioned do-rag.

A good running Harley will chew up a do rag and crap it out forthwith.

That bike is such a turd that the owner probably couldn't care less what type of crap the motor sucked up. It's all just about makin' lots of noise anyway...

Around here, you could furnish a whole house with the stuff left on the sidewalks when the local college lets out for the summer.

That is the correct side for the shifter on an old Ironhead Sporty (Shovelhead was the big twin configuration that superseded the Panhead). Let's get our H-D model designations correct.

Here is my Ironhead Sportster with the shifter on the correct, right hand, side of the bike (I try to keep it in a little better shape than Denis likes to keep his):

It might surprise you but I really like your bike. A friend had one years ago and let me ride it, was pretty quick around town. I was surprised.

No kidding.
In my youth I used to scrounge studentville at move-out.
Once found a new white leather couch set on the curb (in plastic with delivery tags).

Lived in a basement and collected 10-15 trashed bikes from dumpsters.
Made 3-4 roadworthy ones from the parts.
That's where I started getting the mechanical bug I think.

Jeff, it wouldn't take long to take your aircleaner off, and you an Denis could go for a ride on Saturday. Meet some nice chicks and take 'em out for some Jack Daniels. You never know Denis's ol mattress out on the street might get to see some action after all

Not that I intend to do the same.
You guys are assuming it runs, no oil spots means no oil. Sidewalk art
