Shot over a supposed seatbelt violation? This is insane!

I counted 4 shots. Hit Jones once, in the hip.
"Jones was hospitalized for the hip injury, but has since been released."
.
Not much of a good shot at that close range, eh?

Apparently they're harder to hit when they have their hands in the air.

I read that US cops shoot about 1,000 people per year. Looking for credible backup on that.

But we have had more than our share of shootings of deaf people ('wasn't complying; showing gang signs') and physically and mentally handicapped people (always seem to be 'reaching for cops gun' even when face down or in handcuffs) or shooting themselves while handcuffed in the back of a cop car. The worst ones are the cops invading the wrong house and shooting random people or their dogs. There's an "entitlement mentality" with some cops, and giving them military surplus equipment could be part of the problem. That's why ALL cops need to be wearing body cams on duty and any contact they make without one cannot be prosecuted.

I'm honestly not surprised that he managed to fire 4 shots at very close range and not incapacitate the subject.....cops in this state can't shoot worth a crap....thankfully in this instance.

This is inexcusable. This officer must be made an example of.

As a minimum, the guy should be allowed to shoot the officer in the leg.

I like how the LEO - after pluggin' the guy and he's on the deck crying out - starts rifling through the wallet that he thought was a firearm: "Where's your ID?"

Oddly enough, the cop doesn't seem like "bad guy", per se. Just unbelievably incompetent. Like how on earth did he ever get that job??

The guy who got shot was a lot nicer about it than I would have been.

Final note, everyone should be taught how to act when pulled-over, not make sudden moves that could possibly be misconstrued as threatening or used as an excuse for a cop to shoot you. That goes triple if you're black.

The cop seems off....
Not the lack of change to his tone and demeanor after the shoot.....as if he had no idea that he'd done wrong... there's something more to his story.

Bad shoot for sure, but you have to admit that the guy does move suddenly toward the truck. Shouldn't get you shot, but still better to announce "Ok.. my license is inside the truck. I'll get it now," while moving slowly. Cop was probably expecting him to reach for a pocket.

Last time I got pulled over it suddenly hit me that my registration and insurance are inside the owners manual binder which lives under the seat. It's in a zippered case that could easily be mistaken for a gun case. I mentioned this to the cop BEFORE my wife reached under the seat and pulled it out.

C'mon, give the cop a break, he had to have his finger on the trigger, that was a clear 503(h) ("Suspicion of Being Negro") situation there.
