You need a UK /Ireland address for the credit card. Hence the friend.

No cable or TV since August, 2006. No Netflix or Hulu type subscriptions either. Much better this way for me.

Let me know how it works. If it does, and if the F1 season looks worth watching, I could try that too.

Mine isn't pretty but it does the job.

I'm up to 65 channels now. That's up from around 30 with the crappy indoor antenna.

That's a really cool antenna. How would it compare to an older outdoor one? I have a big outdoor one from sometime in the '70s mounted in the rafters in the garage and it seems to work ok, but I've wondered if a homebuilt one would outperform it. Or maybe cleaning the corrosion from 30+ years outdoors would help?

We dumped Comcast TV years ago and have been doing a combo of DirectTV and Comcast data for our viewing pleasure. As soon as Clear gets a transmitter to my area, I'll dump Comcast data and be done with them once and for all.

Reports that Apple TV will have a lineup of networks in an over the top service this fall.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/18/business/media/apple-said-to-plan-limited-low-cost-streaming-service.html?_r=0

On-demand, if included, would be a big plus. The cord-cutting generation is used to watching on demand, via DVR or Netflix, and traditional "live TV" doesn't appeal so much. That was one of my problems with the Sling service.

Note that NBC is refusing to participate in any over-the-top services, because it is owned by Comcast which obviously wants to protect its cable TV business.
http://consumerist.com/2015/01/15/why-dishs-sling-tv-is-a-factor-in-pending-comcasttime-warner-cable-merger/

If FOX is included and brings along FOX Sports, that would solve my F1 "problem". FOX Sports wasn't on the Sling service, because FOX is fighting with Dish over services that allow FOX programming to be viewed on screens other than TVs. http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/fox-challenges-dish-networks-sling-service-1201258558/

Isn't F1 being broadcast on NBC Sports now? I watch the UK Sky broadcast via the nefarious streams available on the web. Not even sure it's going to be worth the hassle this year.

Oh, I don't know - maybe I'm confused . . .

What are the "best" nefarious F1 stream source(s) you've found?

Good summary. Yes it's on NBCSN. And as a 30Y fan of F1, no it's not worth watching this year. Hamilton will run away with it unless he hurts himself falling from his Jet. If so, then Rosberg will. It's not remotely close unless you are interested in who gets third (then it could be Ferrari or Williams)!

Very tempting, except it keeps asking me to download some sort of player...and I'm a natural skeptic of downloads. What is it beyond flash?

In the morning while getting ready for work and on the Treadmill We watch local news and weather on our Ipads..... The app to do this is via cable company requires a comcast logon. Is there a way to stream local news to the Ipad..... can it stream from a digital antenna to the Ipad ?

You don't have to download anything. That's some crap that pops up (basically, adware); ignore it and click play on the original link.

Let's revive this one.

Cutting the cord is my New Year's resolution. I signed up for the free month of Netflix and am very underwhelmed. Everything I search for they either don't have or it's avail. on DVD only. I really need the following channels:

CNN
Fox News
VH1 Classic
some local affiliates for Seinfeld and Two and a Half Men reruns

I want the above and maybe some on-demand stuff. Nothing else.

What do I do?

Antenna will get you all the local stuff.
CNN, fox, and VH1 will be the tricky ones to replace.

Each streaming device will get you some different channels. I have Roku but now Amazon has the fire stick. There is also appletv. I would check each of those and see if they have the stations you want.

Since I have Roku I can tell you Roku has a Fox station but it only plays clips from previous days. It does live audio of the broadcasts but not video.

For on demand you could do Amazon and pay for just the things you watch if Netflix isn't your thing.
