Bugout bag

The story Tweezers posted about the guy who had a fire in his home (Feeling extra giving this holiday? WWII Army Vet lost everything in fire) and lost it all reminded me to check my little bag when I got home...

Nothing special, just some warm clothes, an old pair of eyeglasses, a few bucks in cash in small denominations, some information on my credit cards and drivers licenses and keys to the cars..
It's realistically just for fire only, it's not a true earthquake / emergency kit or anything like that. Just a few essentials for the middle of the night and the next morning in case the house burns and I'm suddenly homeless...

I also have fire extinguishers, and a fireproof safe, hope I never need any of it...

Search "Defy Bag". US made and very manly ...

I call mine the "grab bag"... The contents is much like yours except I also keep a film camera that requires no batteries and rolls of film in their. I also keep some tough leather hiking/bush boots (Italian made) right next to it.
Grab and go. We get bush fires every season here plus I live near the beach.

I got nothin', but now that we live in an apt, maybe we should get something. We do have a fire and security safe that's supposed to be good for 2 hours.

We have a tornado shelter that has some essentials for survival for a day.

We have smoke detectors all over the house. I have 100% zero worry about zombies, tsunamis, hurricanes, devastating earthquakes, forest fires, race riots, floods or mud slides. Tornadoes or lightning are about it and tornadoes are tracked block by block and just don't sneak up on anyone with any common sense. We sometimes get days of advance warning, really.

We do have a bag to gather our prescription medications, dog leashes, and other items to go to the shelter.

Just the necessities. ID/Passport, a bag of cash with a bit of gold or silver...and weapons to protect them...a change of socks, a couple bottles of water and a tube of Preparation H. Anything else can be procured.

I don't currently have a bugout bag, but think about what I might put in it for extended hiatus in the wilds My 40 cal. Glock with two extra extended clips, couple hundred feet of paracord, a couple of lighters and a flint kit, buck knife in a sheath, a coupla portable straw water filters, small packaged fishing kit, boy scout mess kit, small Maglite, compass, two quart sized water cans/bottles, pair of thinsilate work gloves, black stocking cap, camo raincoat, extra glasses, $200 in cash in small bills, multi-tool, roll of plastic or survival blanket, some protein bars/jerky, and some other things I can't think of right now.

Old nap sack in the trunk if the car, change of clothes, extra hat (bald), several bottled waters, some protein bars, flashlight and comfortable boots. I figure when the next big earthquake hits Los Angeles, I can walk the 22 miles home from the studio if I have to.

One thing to keep in mind is that everyone else walking around without such a nap sack will want YOURS because they know what is in it that they don't have.

This is why your bugout bag really only needs to contain a large gun with lots of ammo.

I used to keep a beater bicycle at work for just the same thing. The boss eventually told me to get it off the property, it was just taking up space...I ride most every day anyway, I figure the odds are with me that I'll have my bike if PDX is devastated by quake...and if I have to walk, it's only 6, not 22!

I have been suddenly 'evacuated' a few times, back in the day, & a very important thing that's usually overlooked is shoes or boots. If you jump out of bed & run - you wont get far away if your in barefeet.

Mormons have guns. They seem real nice on the surface, but yes, they own guns!

Remember, many modern firearms are descended from a Mormon designer!

My best friend in high school was Mormon. I think he taught me how to fight ( better).

I know he taught me how to play basketball very aggressively. I miss him n

I was friends with several Mormons in high school, both state champion wrestlers. Damn nice guys, but not people that you would want to tangle with.
