Thats a shallow assessment. What would their reputation be if they gave up on the project? The last thing they appear to be is shysters.

There are 3 options: stop working on it, finish it, or work on it for a long time. The money only flows when they keep working on it. I think they are awesome to watch and continue to be amazed with their craftsmanship. Plus they seem like really great guys. I get the sense that they have regular day jobs and do this on the evenings and weekends.

What happens if they do finish it? Can't do the same thing again. Hard to figure out what to do next that would generate revenue, assuming they stay with the YouTube model. So that brings me back to my original point, keep working on it, keep the revenue flowing.

What makes you think they can't come up with another project - similar, but different?

These guys seem to have no lack of imagination, I've heard them mention other projects that aren't getting done because of Binky, and a lot of people (obviously) like to watch how they solve problems...

tensioning that main belt isnt going to be fun. But I guess being a toothed belt it shouldnt be a common occurance.

Holy crap, that alternator drive system is really cool, but complicated, and took alot of time to fabricate.

I wonder if cooling will be an issue as well.

Yipes, wonder if they ever considering using a new/updated alternator.

Replacement looks almost like an engine removal to make room for your fingers to get the many allen bolts started.

In any case, alt replacement is going to be an involved process.
God forbid they get an oil leak from the cam cover once they get it fired up.

Anyone familiar with the going price of that machining tool?
How much did they put into the upgrades?

At this point they have reached stupid level money in building this, but I suspect the YouTube revenue is more than offsetting the build cost.

I'm not sure I see big money in this car. Lots of free labor (or labour) but the only cash outlay is a Mini, a Celica and lots of trips to the steel yard, but am I missing something?

If time is money then they have spent a **** load!

Ya that’s my point. Clearly these guys have other work they do and I’m assuming they charge a decent hourly rate. They’ve got to have thousands of hours tied up into this.


But yes you are right, most of the materials apart from that fancy flex shaft have been pretty cheap junkyard stuff

These guys work regular jobs, not sure what they do, but this is weekend stuff for them. I'm pretty sure this is just a toy that they can rally in local events, I don't think it's a customer car, so labour is "free" just like anyone here building a hobby anything wouldn't charge themselves for the labor, whether it's RC airplane, horse trailer, scale model of the Taj Mahal....

I think the main guy just has a great brain for working this stuff out in addition to a pair of very skilled and patient hands. I feel lucky to be able to watch.

No rallying. Nick and Richard have mentioned several times in the episodes it would not be a race car and would be Nick's road car. Hence the power locks and windows, rain sensing wipers and air conditioning.
It is off the wall madness, but I am fascinated.

After 20 episodes of 30+ minutes each, and only being half completed so far, they have plenty more likes, shares, subscribed, donations, and youtube hits $$$ coming. Building this car is their full time job, along with the production crew, so evidently, there is plenty of money being made.

I am assuming when everything is finished they will have to dismantle the whole car so it can be painted? And then put it back together. :eek:

The guys have mentioned several times they both work elsewhere. They are doing all of this including the editing. That is why there are such long periods between some episodes.
