It's an old british maritime expression. Here's the wiki; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q-ship

Hot rodders started using the term decades ago to describe a sleeper. A wolf in sheeps clothing. More than meets the eye.

svandamme 03-03-2019 08:10 PM

never heard of that term with cars.... sleeper ok, that I think everybody knows.

bkreigsr 03-04-2019 05:17 AM

FWIW, the theme music was lifted from the Naked Gun series.
SHO ran the movie, and sequels, last week and voila .

cairns 03-04-2019 06:00 AM

Agreed it's Q ship perfection. Hope they paint it BRG.

Adrian Thompson 03-06-2019 05:29 AM

I think it fails the Q ship test with those massive fender flares to cover the wider track.

Having said that. It's an awesome project in every way. So what if they have 'regular' car buttons and a plain stereo. It's a drivers car first and foremost. It doesn't need machined from billet depleted uranium switch gear plated with platinum and a dash covered in whale penis leather. It needs to work, be reliable and go like hell!!!

It’s a very entertaining series on YouTube, I can’t say I’d want the finished product in my driveway though.

that's my point, all that work
for something that has an interior and dash that quite frankly makes me wanna cry.

I could never own a car that has such a fugly radio in it.

Adrian Thompson 03-06-2019 06:01 AM

I don't think most people 'get' the point of this car, or Mini's in general outside the UK. Mini's, especially in the UK, are still massively popular. They transcend perceived brand/wealth/status, plus their rich motorsport history. I defy you to find someone of 40 or older in the UK who didn't own one, have a friend or family member who owned one. This isn't trying to be a sports car, it's appeal is it's capability for footprint. It's not meant to be a Boxster or even an Elise, it's from a land where hot hatches are better point to point machines than most sports cars. Tight, tiny, twisting roads with not the best finish, grass, leaves, mud, cow and horse ****. It's a mini rally refuge.

It's got A/C. I'd let it eat crackers in my driveway, and I'd definitely use it to commute. I don't think the missus would want to ride in it much, but that's OK.

my point has nothing todo with exterior looks
or it's performance

it has everything to do with sitting in it as a driver and what i see from that position : an bloody ugly dash.

The roads you mention are similar to the roads in flanders
I blaze through em with my cayman or my 120D... TC off, total blast.

There's nothing that mini will do that i don't do with mine... but i wont be stuck with a an ugly dash like that... I really hate ugly dashes.
Hence why most Ferrari's or Alfa's do it for me.. just awful dashes..5 year old boy racer aka italian design

I enjoy watching the videos and the fabrication, but can't help but think there's an electrical fire in it's future.

Great as always but I really don't like those step drills they keep using. I have tried them but I prefer old school twist drills.

svandamme 05-12-2019 12:24 PM

I would think if you have to have a lot of holes made of variying bigger diameters.

that step drill is a massive time saver...

javadog 05-12-2019 12:48 PM

Step drills work better in thin sheet metal, which is why they use them. They are also better for large diameter holes.

otto_kretschmer 05-12-2019 06:28 PM

in episode 7 around 7 1/2 minutes he said he wanted to run AC too

:)

I thought that was good for a laugh

I havn't gotten there but I'm expecting him to fit the radiator in the back somewhere

episode 15

I don't understand why they want power steering on a mini
