Putting aside Mr Marchand, remember that history doesn't determine if the infraction is worthy of discipline. It only determines the severity of punishment once the infraction is deemed to be punishable.

BM is having a good season. Around 50 points evenly split and a +/- that would be the envy of many around the league.

Too bad he isn't smart enough to just play hockey.

Unfortunately, old habits are hard to break even when you are an elite player.
Here's another cheap shot by a very skilled player - literally skated up to the opponent and punched the oher player in the back of the head (but no call at all!) The announcers calling the game flipped out that no whistle was blown.

Brad Marchand is tired of being labelled a goon – ProHockeyTalk

He’d like you to know he isn’t the same person that’s been suspended five times previously and fined an additional three times during his nine-year career.

It’s a tough life.

Speaking to NBC Boston’s Joe Haggerty on Monday, Marchand said his image as a dirty player is growing tiresome.

“I’ve tried for a while now to try and get away from that role and I just can’t seem to escape it,” Marchand said with one game left to serve of his latest suspension.

Two years ago, Marchand’s game changed. Handed more minutes, Marchand thrived and put up 37 goals and 61 points in 77 games, the highest totals of his career up to that point in both categories.

Last year, Marchand did one better, improving to a point-per-game player with 39 goals and 85 points in 80 games.

This season, Marchand is again on pace to put up big numbers. In 38 games, he’s amassed 21 goals and 50 points.

“I think, obviously, if you look back at the past few years, I’ve turned into a decent player and it’s tough to be branded with that name consistently,” Marchand said. “Obviously, it’s from my own doing but it’s tough to escape it a bit.”

I hope he can beat the old habits and be the elite player his skills demonstrate. Unfortunately with his rap sheet, the slightest opps puts him in deep water.

Let me help you out. The All Star with 50 points in 37 games played. 21 goals so far. +24 points. He has a Stanley Cup ring and Olympic gold medal. In a league that has been dominated by big bodies and fast players, he is 5'9" and not all that fast. A player that everyone loves to hate unless he is on their team. Unfortunately he has a rap sheet and needs to get past his bad habits.

Brad will get a bit more annoying now that Adam McQuaid is back. McQuaid is a tough local boy (Charlottetown) who can take care of things if need be, a bit of a goon I guess.

I think he was in 3 fights against Rangers last night. Looks about 16 yrs old.

Yeah, hardly worth anything with ONLY a Stanley Cup and World Cup. He would have been in the Olympics this year if Bettman didn't push the NHL out.
