TV News Disaster Coverage...Another few examples of 'fail'
I know first hand of the ridiculous coverage that local (and network) TV news provides. Watching coverage of the flood disaster in Houston was yet another classic few examples.
In one segment, the field news caster was out doing a story on a guy kayaking down a street. At the beginning of his segment he said the man was rescuing dogs. Nobel cause. Well they got the guy and interviewed him. Her is the unofficial exchange: News guy: So what is it like out there? Kayaker: really pretty cool News guy: we have been reporting about the dangers in the water with snakes, fire ants and what have you. Kayaker: I didn't see anything like that at all and I've been out here all morning News guy: Your an experienced kayaker, this isn't for the untrained> Kayaker: nah, this is my families Kayak, I haven't Kayaked since I was 6. News Guy: but your out rescuing dogs like this one (pointing to a dog) Kayaker: nah, that's my dog. Listen, I'm beat, I'm going home to take a shower to get to bed. New Guy: Not going to work today? Kayaker: well...err..I guess not. Hope my boss isn't seeing this. CLASSIC! You can't scrip this stuff!!! Then, a different news guy interviews a man who has been up all night rescuing stranded drivers. News Guy: So you have been up all night helping people get out? Driver: Yes (in a Middle Eastern accent), people were stuck I come get them with my truck to help them. News Guy: Yes, and this truck? Driver: Yes, this truck a 1979 pick-up. Good truck. News Guy: Yes it is! American made! Helped save people! (as he smacks the side) and as he continued his final comments you can hear the driver say "its not the truck, its the driver! Not the truck, DRIVER!" And then there are the News guys and girls, wearing knee high boats in the water commenting on people also in the water explaining how people should not be in the water.

"ain't nobody got time for that..."
Saw a report on the news this morning about a bouncy house delayed entry into the spacex competition. Reporter found a woman with teased out green hair and big white rimmed glasses for a comment. Usually don't find valedictorians and nobel prize winners trolling around in the crowd after a major news event. ![]()

Every reporter that works a flood at some point will put on rubber boots and shoot a piece while standing in the water. It happens all over the country. It is a thing every reporter seems to want to try. Like shoving a microphone in the face of some pour soul that just had a house burn down or blow away from a tornado or hurricane. The always ask the same question "So how do you feel about seeing your home destroyed"
