Most recent one we watched (netsflix) was The Great Magician. Amazing Chinese film that you think if a serious period piece but has comedy, drama, irony, etc. Tony Leung is awesome as always.
No kidding. Almost every big budget, wide release Hollywood film I've ever seen is total crap. Even the ones that everyone raves about.... I don't get. They are usually just crap. (Gone Girl, Interstellar, Gravity are recent films that come to mind). There are a bunch of films (mostly foreign) released each year that are truly powerful and extraordinarily films.

the worst movie I've seen in 10 years, I was stunned with how bad it was.

Saw an indy film called "Chef" the other day. Well-done, funny, entertaining and well-executed. Simple and fun. Way better than most of the Hollywood pablum.

Jurassic "X". Meh. Pass.

It seems "Hollywood movie" has become another way of saying "special effects competition" for the last few years. It's a pattern that seems to have no end in sight - more and more flashy blow-em-ups, crazy camera angles and digital what-nots all over the place. The plot is a begrudged afterthought ("oh yea that's right, we have to come up with some BS to string all this cool eye candy together - where's the intern? Can you get him on that? Have something on my desk tomorrow afternoon - we've got to push this thing out")

I'm really hoping the new "Star Wars" doesn't fall into that trap.

there's some tedious anti corporate crap about respecting animals and leaving nature alone. theĄ could have replaced the words animals and nature with audiences and original scripts.

What's wrong with respecting animals and leaving nature alone exactly? It's a far better message than "rape the planet, kill all the animals cause we gots guns and look at everything around us as a resource to exploit / profiteer from" certainly.

I see nothing wrong with an underlying message of respect / anti-corporatism at all, but I'll agree that coming from Hollywood (some of the most ostentatious displays of wealth and excess in the world) it's hypocritical and pretty weak. I don't want to be preached to (it's fine if a movie has a moral - so long as it doesn't cram it down my throat). I really just want to see a decent movie that doesn't suck, isn't a rip-off and is more than just a "hey mom look what I can do with a computer" SFX exhibition.

Complaining about plot defects in a Jurassic Park movie is like complaining about the vapid lyrical content of a Justin Bieber album.

Kid movies, Kid music. What do you expect?

Yes, it wasn't great, but I enjoyed it. It was entertaining for what it was.

Wow, weird. I thought the last half of the movie was the best. It always surprises me when people complain about the details in movies that are essentially pure fantasy.

I saw Jurassic World a couple of days before it opened (premier event for Benz employees). I buckled in and enjoyed the roller coaster - it was a nice 2 hour distraction from reality.

It was OK, certainly watchable. I enjoyed Mad Max and Avengers Age of Ultron more, but it was good. I'm not in the biz, but I feel like a different director could have made the difference between an OK movie and a really good movie.

i saw it yesterday. i just went to a regular theater. no IMAX, no 3D.

it was 100 degs and it was nice to crawl into a dark refrigerated theater. the movie was "okay". it met my expectations.

i LOVED the old motorcycle.!! was that a Triumph dirtbike?
the worst thing about the movie was the sighing and eye rolling i was getting from the wife. i think i owe her big. she'll probably pay me back with some LIFETIME made for TV vagina monologue remake of shakespear in love.

I thought it was ok, but not great.

I rolled my eyes when the kids pops an old battery off the shelf into the jeep and it starts up. Old gas and all.

If you want to top that, check out Tomorrowland. What that movie needed was a Maximisourous to destroy everyone in the first five minutes of the movie - to save the audience...

I worked on Tomorrowland, I thought the script sucked and hoped it would pull it self out, but nope. A $150 MM write off.

You weren't paying attention (and they didn't portray it well). The battery came from the 4-wheeler that they had just passed. I was thinking the same thing about the old gas.

Good to know. I thought the idea looked interesting, but I was thinking that it might be a movie for 13 year old girls, so I had skipped it.

I tried to check my brain at the door, but it didn't work. Kept catching myself thinking through the whole thing.

I guess Mercedes outbid Jeep for vehicle placement?

Pretty much. Shut off your brain for two hours and all is well. I'll probably take my kids to see it tonight.
