![]() What's your price range? Seriously, I would look at '06/'07 Silverados w/ Allison and Duramax. Best truck ever made and they hold their value like a pitbull on a chew toy.

Or Found On Road Dead.
![]() I actually like some Fords but as one of my buddies once said, "all of the worst cars are 4-letter words...Fiat/Yugo/Saab/Audi/Ford/etc..." ![]()

Do your research Matt. Yes, they are more reliable than the 6.0, but when they break, and they do break, it will sting.
The local diesel shop ALWAYS, has at least one or two sitting in their shop with the freakin' cab off. I wrench for a living, and I was still scared of the thing. The DPF clogs up , then takes out the Turbos. I have seen many trucks under 100k with the turbos out. Fuel dilution is a problem because of the regen process, and the diluted fuel causes excess cam , and lifter wear. I bought my truck with issues and screwed it back together myself for a winter project. This was a well cared for truck with 112,000 miles, no tuner, always serviced at ford. It was a company truck , They had 13 of them, and 6 had eaten motors in the last few years. The guy was getting rid of all his Fords . It needed both heads, ( cracked, ) the entire valve train, ( rockers, bridges , and pushrods) both turbos, the timing cover was eaten away , the dpf, and the cat were toast, etc.. The list goes on. I had well over 7 k in parts in this thing, it was the biggest piece of **** I have ever unscrewed in my life . When they do have injector problems, there is no warning, and they take out the motor. They just dump fuel, and melt pistons. The regen process, dumps extra fuel into cylinders 7 and 8, and you always see them with cracked/melted pistons in those two cylinders . These things just are not built well, and there is no way in hell I will ever own another one. It was marginally faster than my duramax, but not by much. This would be my very last choice. I would buy a 6.0 ford, and stud it and delete it before I would own another 6.4. Even with the cab off, they are super hard to work on .

And speeder is right, fuel mileage was horrible. Best I ever saw was 13 . This was on a studded , deleted truck running an economy tune. 9-10 around town. My dmax dually does 18-19 empty at 65/70, and I got an honest 14.5 towing a tall 7k pound 5th wheel camper to Florida and back . Hand calculated.
Don't do that to yourself my man. Seriously, I have driven them all , and the D max is the nicest truck .

Ok, you guys suck what with your reality and stuff.
![]() I like the Duramax trucks but the back seats are tiny. I most frequently use this thing with all five seats full. There's no reason why something so big should have compact car back seats.

I'm also spoiled, the back seat on my F150 is HUGE. 5 adults can ride in that truck in extreme comfort.

I'm 6'3 and fit just fine in the backseat of my extended cab silverado. Not the most comfortable place in the world but it's not bad at all. How much space do you need?

To solve that problem, I just bought a quad cab. Im not daily driving the thing, it is for hauling trailers ,and road tripping/vacationing. My family, and lady love it . The back is cavernous . Super comfy, and roomy. Nicest road trip vehicle I have ever owned .
![]() Mines a dually, but you get the idea. If you need more room than this, then you need a bus

Fred, that looks bigger than many of the 2500s that I'm looking at. Did they have two different crew cab configurations?

Had a Ford 99 3/4 ton power stroke for a decade, it was reliable.
Trans was only a 4 speed auto, no tow mode or jake brake assist. Switched to a 14 Ram 1 ton diesel cost new $40k. tows a 24 foot car trailer like a sports car up and down hills. Would cruise at 90 on the flats in the 3rd lane if safe and legal. rated to 30k lbs towing. Could be driven daily. ![]() Last edited by ted; 07-06-2015 at 07:36 PM.. |

That's weird because I always thought that a Silverado crew cab was the same size as Ford's. Dodge is the one with the super-sized crew cab. My friend that I work with has that F-150 super Crew and I never thought it looked bigger than the Chevy cc it's always parked next to(?)
I will admit that we never use that back seat for people. I rode in the back once recently and it was fine. Don't you put your kids in the back? Is a couple inches of extra leg room worth ruling out the best truck?

I am going to agree with Matt, the back seats in the 4 door F150's are freakishly roomy.
The Mega Cab on the Dodge is big, but for some annoying reason you can't get it with a full size bed. I have had 4 adults on large road trips (hunting) and have not ever gotten any complaints in my 2012 350. Bill |

Denis, it's frequently adults back there for an extended period of time, so yeah it's a big deal.
Here's what I have: ![]() Here's the back seat of a 2008 Silverado 2500HD crew cab: ![]() It is adequate, but not much more. I would compare the back seat area to a midsized sedan.
