Pulled the trigger on a new 'Stang

I bought a 2012 Boss 302 when they came out but only kept it 6 months .Sweet engine and nice car overall but just too BIG. 3/4 scale would have been nicer.
Sold it and kept my other old one.

Btw, the Bullitt didn't sell well because it was a bland styling package and about $500 worth of bolt on performance parts. The GT500 was far more expensive and they couldn't build them fast enough because they were a huge enhancement to the GT.

Bitter? Hardly! As far as styling goes, I went with the Bullitt because I don't like stripes & spoilers...I loved that "bland" look. I also prefer normally aspirated engines over blowers or turbos.

With 6 years and 20,000 miles behind me, I've found my Bullitt to have been a trouble free well balanced driver. It's mild 315 horsepower is quite adequate for street driving. A collectable Porsche it isn't...and I'm thankful for that.

Been there done that with car gatherings. I find spending time in a nice air conditioned pool hall to be more enjoyable these days.

To each his own...gotta admit, I am tempted with the thought of the new GT350...but then the practical side kicks in. I mean, how much car do I need to get to a pool hall and back home?

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE this car, but am very skeptical about the 30MPG claim. We've had it a little over a week now: as my wife's DD in/around town, she's getting about 14MPG, and we live in a small-ish town with very little traffic. This weekend, I took it for its first "long" road trip--about 3 hours. I averaged just a tad over 29MPG on the highway, which isn't bad. Granted, I was averaging around 90MPH, so that could have made up the difference in fuel; however, as a DD we're never going to see anywhere near 30MPG in the city.

I have now fallen victim, too. I fell in love with the first 2015 Mustang I saw. I've never had a Mustang or any "pony" car before, other than a 928! (the "Camaro built by God.") Over the weekend, I picked up a '15 GT that someone special ordered and didn't purchase for some reason. Whoever that guy is must be like we motorheads here on Pelican, as it has only two options: The performance package (which includes stiffer springs and bushings, monotube rear shocks, bigger rear sway bar, bigger radiator, a big engine/strut tower brace, six piston front Brembos with huge rotors from the outgoing GT500; bigger rear brakes over the regular GT, 3.73:1 rear end with a Torsen diff, bigger PZero’s (255/40R19 and 275/40R19, on 19x9 and 19x9.5 specific wheels), a front splitter, and some other doo dads like some extra gauges, and different calibration for the ABS, stability control, and some selectable electric-assisted power steering) and the Recaro seats.

It was an odd buying experience. Some dealerships wouldn't come off the sticker price on the 8 cylinder cars at all, aside from the factory cash back offer on all 2015's. Other dealerships offered me as much as $3600 off the sticker price. And the Ford dealerships apparently play hardball when it comes to dealer trade requests. I couldn't buy this car through my local dealer, which tried to obtain it for me via dealer trade. So I had to go directly to a dealership that is 100 miles away; bought it over the phone. Those guys were really helpful and they bent over backwards to sell me the car.

It really drives nicely. It's a bit bigger than I'd want for my only "sports/sporty" car but for me this is a commuter so I like the heft and comfort but with 435 horsepower! My commute is pretty short so the gas mileage isn't that big of a deal for me. I do plan to autocross it a bit just to see how it fares.

It sure is a little big. No argument there. I think it weighs 3700lbs. But it's comfortable, fast and fun to drive, the brakes are stupendous, and man it sure does sound good on the way to work in the morning!

Different sort of fun. It's definitely not a Porsche, and it won't compare favorably to one on a racetrack. But for around town, highway cruising, and the occasional twisty road it can definitely put a smile on your face.

BTW, for your dreaming pleasure, you can now configure a new GT350 or GT350R on the Ford website. There were several GT350Rs at a local Ford sponsored car show this weekend. Lust really doesn't capture it, I will own one of those in a few years.

I was going to hold out for the GT350 too. The base price is about $47k. Reasonable for that package I think. But every dealer I talked to said "waiting list" and "over sticker." I've heard $25k over sticker several times already. But who knows.

Adjusted for inflation that's just a little bit more than I paid for my new '87 LX 5.0. The late '80s LX 5.0s were great bang for the buck but you're getting a lot more for your money. I am very tempted to pull the trigger on a new one.

If you wait 6 months to one year they will probably be selling at MSRP. All of the special edition Mustangs sell at a premium at first. I have auction access, so I figure in 2017 they'll start popping up there.

buyers willing to pay $25K (or any $k) over sticker for a new Mustang should evaluate their capacity for rational thought.
