I think he paid $80K.

The 991 is starting to grow on me. Still think it is a bit of a porker next to a 997 but your buddy's car looks pretty sweet.

Manuals are getting impossible to buy. I couldn't even spec a Corolla S with a manual to replace my Vibe GT; only a CVT is available!

In Porsche 991s and Boxsters, it's a hell of lot less than 10% manuals. He did a nationwide search and found this one 3300 miles away.

Even better, he has 4 pedals, I'm jealous of that great big dead pedal.

My son just got a new manual Jetta and they had to get it from the port storage since there weren't any at a dealer. One of the main reasons it was new was that there are virtually no used manuals. We found one used one at a Nissan dealer but they ignored my phone calls and then sent it to action because nobody was asking about it (you know, besides me calling to ask about it ?!?!)

I believe it... I spotted a couple of potentially fun ones (Volvo 850 wagon / manual) yesterday at the boneyard but of course since they're in there, they've been taken off the road.

It's not just 991's. The shortage of manuals started with the first PDK 997's. I searched for six weeks before finding a decent 997 Turbo with a manual.

I have 2 friends looking at auctions for me for a 2011 BMW 3 series 2 door manual.
Last week there were over 250 cars and not one to match what i wanted.

U are supposed to be clairvoyant like TABS.

Anyway....I think the gas pedal would look kool if it had one of those big chrome barefoot pedals.

And it is not hard to find a manual all you have to do is stop by Home Depot in the morning.

that porker of a car needs an electronic lockout for reverse, a Jake brake, and a rope that you pull on to activate the air horns.

That's funny because some automotive journalists were saying the exact same thing, (in so many words), about the new 1969 911S in a road test at the time. The tester they had was equipped with a slush box auto trans, (Sportomatic), power windows, air conditioning and hydro pneumatic suspension. Even w/o all the heavy options, 911s at the time were tubs of lard compared to other small European sports cars. Of course they were GT 2+2s then and they are now.

People love to try to re-write history when complaining about the newest Porsche. I've been around them a little longer than some, so I know that nothing has changed except that the newest ones are probably lighter in comparison to the competItion than they used to be.

Your buddy will also do well on resale someday. The used Porsche buyers (mostly enthusiasts)still prefer manuals. Time will tell us if PDK is the resale value kick in the nuts that tiptronic was, but I suspect due to their rarity that the manual transmission Porsches will always be worth more.

My cousin has a new Boxster S up in MN. that is a PDK. He wanted a manual, (traded in an older Boxster w/ manual), he couldn't find one and salesman convicted him that no one would want a manual trans car when it came time to sell. What a load of horseschit.

Any who, I drove it recently and it's a hell of a car but it would be better with a manual.

When I look for Porsches for resale I only buy manuals. I filter out the automatics.

I went all the way to Wisconsin (from Arizona) to find a manual transmission 128i. They are difficult to find.

What I really liked the most about the 2 Volvo 145's I owned were the manual transmissions. I keep looking for another - but very hard to find one old enough that's not an automatic.

Looks like Porsche is going in the same direction - sigh.....

I recently bought a rare one too. PASM sport suspension, sport exhaust, torque vectoring and most important, manual transmission. Say what you want about weight but it's a fantastic car.
