Bridge Construction - Simplified (?)

Granted, this has relatively limited application but is still pretty good stuff.

Cheers

If that was in the USA the federal government would have to get involved and take over and then make a federal department and spend a billion dollars to build a bridge that only lasts a few years and then charge a toll to cross it.

That work force seemed to be lacking in diversity. All involved need to be forced into diversity train courses while the EPA conducts a 5 year, $40 million dollar environmental impact study. Another 5 years of squabbling over an endangered salamander in the river will tack on another $20 million. Then the project will get handed over to the Bechtel Corporation in a no bid contract. After massive delays and cost overruns due to 'unforeseen circumstances', the new bridge will completed, only to be deemed worthless by the locals because it will only accommodate vehicle traffic. Officials will explain that there are no footpaths because no one brought it up during the 'comment' period 17 years earlier.

FTW!

If it makes you feel better it's no different with public sector vertical construction.

They should have been contracted to build the San Francisco/ Oakland Bay bridge. Cheaper and probably stronger!

But is it "Barrier Free"?

Yep, this is a beautiful thing this bridge and the traditions of the people there.

I have a friend who is a CE. One of the projects on his plate is replacing a small bridge across a creek in the middle of nowhere, probably 30'-40' long, just a few feet high. The original was built in the 20's. There are 4 or 5 families that live on the other side. The cost will be about $2.5M

Fascinating - thanks for the post.

Makes me wonder how they strung the first cable on the first bridge, all those hundreds of years ago.
