Are people getting too polite on airplanes.

It seems like when the aisle in front of them is clear they have to wait for an invite from across the aisle to enter it. Then they have to get up, get their carry on and exchange pleasantries. Is it a power thing being at the head of the line? Get your $hit and get off the airplane.

And I won't go into what I think of the people, who like on that British airways 777 in Las Vegas, who stop to get their roll around carry on while the plane is on fire.

Whatever happened to Greyhound?

Too polite? Lol. I just rode from LAX to ATL on a plane with an annoying yappy ass dog. Get an effing kennel or dog sitter like I do. Unreal....

haven't had to fly in a while PRAISE THE LAWRD! but back when I was commuting every two weeks on a plane "too polite" wasn't a problem.

Now people on a two hour flight who have to pull their roller out of the overhead while in flight...problem.
People who board with a duffle bag large enough to carry a dead body (how the he11 do they get all the way to the plane with something like that anyway?)... problem.
People who feel they have to drag their baby stroller onto that plane... problem.
People who don't use deodorant... problem.

I flew around 25,000 miles this summer, multiple coast to coast in the US and overseas.

Which included 3 major flight delays/cancellations, 2 of which required unplanned overnight stays.

I have to say, I found everyone I encountered (which must have been thousands of people) to be polite, reasonable and pleasant. I had no issues with anyone.

One woman got a little bent out of shape about one of the cancellations, but the airline people handled it well and she was ok.

I guess I'm just lucky.

I pay no attention to those around me when I fly. I might be an *******, but I really don't want to be bothered. I put my earbuds in before I get on the plane; have my book and drink in my hand and backpack on my shoulder. Get to my seat, toss the backpack in the overhead, plop my arse down (always in the window seat), crack the book and read while my music blocks out the world around me. Makes for a very relaxing flight, except when a fatty sits next to me and wants half my seat, too...

From Denver to Phoenix. As soon as the plane landed the guy next to me bolted down the isle to get as far ahead as he could. He was able to maybe get 3 rows.

With low maintenance dogs and high maintenance owners in the cabin plus seating configurations designed for Asian dwarves I'm surprised there isn't more airliner rage going on...it's as cheap as the bus is which is pretty much what flying has turned in to.

Airlines should have special seating closest to the exits for persons under 250 lbs. with 1 small carry on that can fit under the seat, and thier ticket should cost less. It would be like an incentive to stay fit, travel light and not be an assmonkey.

I'm not sure why the FAA hasn't cracked down on this, as there are regulations and policies about carry-ons. Oh wait... I know, it's because of money. The Airlines have it, and they have the lobbying power to keep the FAA off their ass most of the time.

And the Airlines encourage the abuse of the carry-on policies by charging for a checked bag. People in the cheap seats are not going to pay $25 to $75 to check a bag when they know the stewardesses will let them bring their bag into the cabin and jam it in the bin. And they sure don't care about other flyers who also have carry-on bags. No, this is America and the "I'm more important than you" mentality is prevalent even in steerage class passengers.

I only fly with carry on luggage. Single roller bag that's a tad larger than the measuring box they have at the gate. Never had an issue fitting it in the overhead. My backpack with laptop goes under the seat. If I have a coat it gets folded and sandwiched on top of my roller bag to not take extra space.

Most of trips back East involve a connection...usually in PHX. Once you check a bag with the airline you're at their mercy. Change in schedule, missed connection, everything get's harder when you don't have your stuff on hand. Hell I've done 3 week business trips out of a single roller bag - suit, 2 slacks, 3 shirts, 2 ties, 4-5 days worth of machine washable stuff. No problemo. No you are NOT going to check (and probably destroy or lose) my damn bag thanks very much!! Baggage claim...HAHAHAHAH F that. I walk up the ramp, to the rental car counter, and I'm adios.

What kills me are the folks that try to put ALL their crap in the overhead storage. They sit there carefully folding their coats, holding up the boarding process, and place it in the overhead next to their roller bag, their backpack/purse, and whatever they happened to buy at the airport. I maintain my airline Visa card only to get priority boarding and avoid those clowns.

What really ticks me off are the people who are apparently lost to the idea of assigned seating. Happens on 1/3 of my flights. Some joker takes a seat, get's bumped out, collects his crap, moves down the isle, stows crap, takes seat, bumped again, rinse & repeat. They should leave the back door open and toss those jokers out.

God I sound like an ZZA. Work travel makes me cranky.

No they gate check their huge carry on and then take their sweet time getting off the plane cause they know they will have to wait in the entryway to pick them up.

If you are not in a hurry that is one thing but if you force everybody behind you to wait also that seems inconsiderate.

Sometimes you are in a hurry to make a connection or get to an appointment.

You get what you pay for.

Most people care about exactly one thing - cheap fare. The industry has responded accordingly and you get what we now have - airlines as ghetto as Greyhound and planes packed full of low-rent losers who are somewhat challenged with respect to knowing what constitutes socially acceptable behaviour. Get used to it or pony up for higher prices - it really is that simple. As long as people continue to only demand low prices nothing else will matter and flying will continue to attract people who years ago never would have been on airplanes at all.

"Too polite" is a descriptor I'd never, ever use to describe the behavior of other passengers on any commercial flying experience I've had - at least domestic. International is a different animal entirely, particularly on foreign carriers. Much more pleasant IMHO.

This always cracks me up (sorta) people forcing their way into the isle as soon as the gong goes off (or just before).
It is just like the duffus honking and weaving through rush hour traffic... then after you have been sitting patiently in traffic, you get off the freeway and pull right up behind duffus at the offramp.

Even if you do not check luggage (most of my trips were weekenders so everything I needed fit in a small roller) you still need to get through the airport and meet/arrange transportation.

There are a few airlines that give you one free checked bag... my diminutive wife loves that! (not having the schlep a bag on/off the plane.)

I think it's great for folks to be polite, especially in a situation like flying, but that would irritate me too. Clearly, you were just being too polite by not crowding their personal space. I bet if you'd been all over them, they'd have gotten out a bit faster.

I spent some time traveling for work many years back, and now travel 2 or 3 times a year most years. I get a seat as close to the front of the plane as possible, always carry-on and usually take an aisle seat. I want to be off the plane as quick as possible.

I fly four times a month and must say I havn't had any of the typical complaints. Of course I'm usually in seat 1A and I only travel with a small laptop backpack as I keep my business wardrobe in my apartment in California and my work from home attire(casual cloths) at home. I guess I've been lucky.

My pet peeve is the clown boards early and whose seat is in row 50 but he puts his crap in the first overhead he comes to - like row 15. So the guy in row 15 who boards later (me for instance) has to put his stuff in an overhead in the back of the plane.

I'm flying from Phoenix to Dulles to Munich tomorrow. I used to hate the people with carry-ons, but I really can't blame them since the airlines started gouging everyone on checked baggage fees. I hate everyone normally and especially so when flying. Serenity now!

I think he lives near me. If it's the same guy, he always gets mad when I start slowing down for a red light, floors it to get around me, then slams on his brakes to keep from running it.
