Ghosts are just like the Loch Ness Monster, and the extraterrestrials at Roswell. 100% pure made up as a way to get tourists to come visit a hotel or town.

It is pure bunk.

The wife has seen what I guess is the old guy who initially lived in our house 50 years ago a few times in the same area the dog was checking out.

The other thing is people who are open minded about ghosts and the paranormal in general feel that way based on a personal experience, something more tangible than being asked to believe just on word of mouth and pure faith.
I can see why you would thing that. I wonder whether you've talked to genuine Christians (check the box but don't pray, read the Bible, attend church...) or if you are making an assumption based on opinion. I don't say that as an attack against you. I just know that it is easy to project my opinion into my assumption / observation of what others think. When I think that the movie was a dud I am quick to expect everyone else to see it as I did.

My experience is that many Christians I know believe that "ghosts" are actually demonic spirits in sheep's clothing. Hence, that "ghost" of grandma in the seance is actually a familiar spirit.

Likewise, I also understand your skepticism about God because of no personal experience. I admit that I had to come to Him by faith but after that, I have a lot of personal experiences where He has shown up in my life but that is a conversation for a different board.

Well genuine Christians have a Holy Ghost don't they? So genuine Christians, not the fake ones, must believe in ghosts.

I've stayed in some pretty creepy places...like a run-down old Southern plantation home that was being run as a B&B, and in the Stanley Hotel, which inspired Steven King to write The Shining, but I've never seen any ghosts.
I once asked a friend who was an astronomer about the possibility of UFOs being alien spacecraft and he told me something that I think would apply to ghosts as well. He said that there are a great many phenomena in this immense universe that we humans will never be able to fully understand, and that it's pretty narrow-minded of us to immediately presume that any strange lights we see are alien spacecraft...or ghosts.

I certainly believe in the spirit world, there are bonds we make in the material world that go well beyond what we can ever explain. Those are spiritual bonds, like love.

Why do we behave different to each other after carnal knowledge? We are engaging in a physical act, but the result is a bond much stronger than what we can rationally explain.

Holy ghost is a (very) loose translation... most Christian's refer to the third person as the Holy spirit.

Thus not a ghost in the sense of a ghost = the an apparition of a dead human being.

Did you ever stop to think about why people are so interested in the spiritual world?

Îf, as some claim, we are merely carbon water etc why would we bother with a world we cannot see?

Doesn't make sense does it?

I've always been fascinated by the unknown. Many people I know and trust have shared personal stories that lead me to believe that perhaps there is a spirit world. However I don't really have much interest in seeing a ghost!

My 16yo daughter sees two in our house, has since she was 13 or so. A young girl and an older lady she says the girl doesn't bother her but the old lady makes her uncomfortable. When she sees them my son's cat always looks in the same direction...I'm a big skeptic but my daughter is very level headed so I believe her.
