Tire sensor questions

The GF has a Toyota Solara. The dash idiot light came on. Tire sensor. All the pressures are correct including having 60psi in the spare. The reset button gave no joy.

How do I track which sensor is faulty? I assume the sensor is inside the wheel attached to the valve stem. Once identified as to the culprit, simply breaking down the tire and replacing is the deal or is this something that requires the Stealer to program to the car?

my TPSM light comes on when the pressure is too high as well.

you like 60psi? all the tires are 60? or just the spare? and without my OM handy, i kinda remember a faulty sensor gives a different reading than low PSI. flashy versus solid light..i think.

35 for the road tires, 60 for the spare.

You went through the whole reset procedure?

-Inflate all tires to pressure listed on placard.
-Turn ignition to on position (engine off).
-If TPMS light is flashing, hold down tire pressure reset button (found on instrument panel, knee bolster, or inside glove box) until TPMS light flashes 3 times.
-Once TPMS light is off, hold down the reset button until light flashes 3 times.
-Drive vehicle at 19mph+ for at least 1 hour.

We have a Honda and the dealer had to reset the TPMS light after replacing the wheel sensors. I could have replaced the sensors myself but would still have to the dealer turn the frikkin' light off.

Given the van is model year 2007 I had them replace all 4 sensors.

No kidding. My veeedub just had the reset button in the glove box and it learns the tire pressure. No need to get dead nuts the same on all tires.

I had mine come on in the Tacoma. Turned out to be the spare.

The one in my Taco has always been on. The dealer wants $$$ to fix it. One inch of black tape did the trick.

Every car has a different reset procedure, sometimes they work but sometimes they don't. The tire shops have tools that they use on each wheel to reset and link the sensors, I think you can also get them online from Tire Rack and others. If the sensor is bad, many of them require you to break the bead to replace it. Google your car for specifics.

There are several hand held scanners you can get to check each sensor.

Who started this idea that we needed TPSM in the first place?

There is not enough room on the internet to tell about problems with this POS.
Truthfully the car is great. But there is zero for dealer support.
So for starters -
To go there is a NIGHT MARE. (the dealer)
They do not like the idea it was bought from another dealer from another state.
They told me so.
Right now the "on board what ever system says -no communication between it and sensors" "
The dealer says it is too intermittent to fix.
Sigh.
They have fixed numerous wheel sensors, but they do not have the verve to take on this problem.
This is the smallest problem I have with this car.
A shifter cable breaks ever 20K miles, the first time it sat in the shop for 28 Days ! What is worse they would not give me a loaner ...and no apology from them.
ALL wheel bearings have been replaced and need them renewed again.They are howling .
The lower trim below the doors keeps falling off and they say they will not fix it anymore.
The rear tires last 20K miles as they have 3/4 tow built in...
The rear brakes seized up ..they replace the calipers .
and on and on...and on and on.......
Fiat did the same thing to their customers in the late 70s early 80s, they acted like they did not need them.
We all are getting the point.
The car is a 2013 Abarth with 60K on it.
It COULD have been a great car....but the dealer has ruined the experience for me .
In fact the dealers have done such a BAD job they now can be bought for about 1/3 and less then when I bought this.
Kind of ruins the trade in value..LOL

I dunno. I hate the ones that just tell you the pressure is low. My Volt tells me the actual pressure (as near as it can measure). I like it that it can send me an alert that says the pressure is low in a tire and I can see that it's 33 psi - low, yes, but not catastrophic. Put air in the tire, drive it, and the alert goes away. My BMW 535 only told me the pressure was "low" and it was a royal pain to reset the warning after putting 1-2 psi into the tire.

Older brother in New Orleans with a Fiat 500 Turbo, bought new at the New Orleans "Studio" has seen the Studio go out of business months ago. He has to travel to Baton Rouge for service. Just learned the other day that Baton Rouge is folding up. That leaves either Houston or Pensacola for "factory service" under warranty.

Our immediate family has owned 17 Fiats in the past all the way back to the 60's. He thought this time with Chrysler they would make a good product and support it. He's tried trading it in and no dealerships want it. Not giving him a lowball trade in offer, they just flat out don't want it. So yeah, we agree, what a POS.

Sure seems like you should talk to a Lemon Law attorney. I can recommend an excellent one if you like.
