F1 Austin 2015

Uber is now accepting applications for boat drivers for the F1 weekend. Bring your rain gear and a life preserver, race fans!

In all seriousness, be careful. We're supposed to get heavy rain producing wide spread flash flooding all weekend.

Why don't they just seed the clouds a couple days before the race to keep the rain away? The Russians do that.

Based on the projected rainfall Saturday and Sunday (up to 10" in places) for the IH35 corridor through Austin an inflatable dinghy looks to be appropriate gear.

Could be an interesting weekend. I'm anxious to see how Alexander Rossi does in the Manor, which for this race is sporting an American-flag-themed livery. He has said he hopes to secure a fulltime race seat with that team for 2016, but there are several others who have the same hope. And the price of admission has increased, thanks to the new contracts for Mercedes engines and Williams transmissions and suspension components, and more, for next year.

If it rains as predicted by the NBC Nightly News last night, we won't have a race.

I certainly hope Austin doesn't see too much trouble from the rains (likely sensationalized by the press anyway), but a good rain race would be a nice change. Maybe it'll add some excitement and mix up this boring and predictable F1 season.

David,
Turn 12 is a great spot. I worked that corner last year. Not much work for us, but the racing was great!

The rain is off and on right now, but when it comes down, it's hard rain with 40mph winds.

The cool part, it should clear out by race time Sunday. The best part, qualifying will most likely be canceled tomorrow and we won't know who is going to win before the race starts.

Please be mindful and cautious in your travels, conditions can turn on you in hurry.

How is that done? I thought it was used for increasing precipitation. But if able to prevent rain, that would be crazy cool.

^^^Seed the clouds to rain before the race so that they're spent and won't rain during the weekend.

Interesting idea, but with lots of wind forecast also. It may be difficult to affect the weather that is coming along later.

They were talking during practice about the elaborate drainage infrastructure put into place at the early stages of construction, and how effective it is.

During practice one. It was stopping raining and the track was not too bad for the conditions. So there may be hope for this weekend yet

You are not going to be successful in seeding the rain out of a meeting between a low pressure system and moisture pushed in by the outer bands of a hurricane.

Cota did an excellent job in designing the drainage system to keep the track from flooding, but they didn't have an answer as to how to keep the lightning away.

I live about 10 miles due west of the track, and we've had about 3.5 inches since midnight, and the heavy stuff is about to come. It's going to be a mess out there all day. Cue up SRV.

I was on 35 in heavy rain while driving to the MotoGP in April. 'twas not fun.

That was a mess yesterday. We arrived for practice 2 which was cancelled so we just hung out with friends under one of the bigs tents. Didn't see any cars on track but we walked up the turn 15 grandstands to check out the track and saw pretty high standing water in turn 15.

Tried out the locking differentials on the Cayenne to get out of the muddy parking lot with summer tires. Many others weren't quite so lucky.

IH35 on a glorious day, top down, getting a blow job from a hot chick, is not fun.

Need some Texas attitude. Just like the poor ol' professional football players. Whiner teams and spectators won't complain about a little rain drop. Call up Jerry Jones for a full retractable roof F1 course. haha
