A favorite of mine as well as St. Tropez, Dark Side of the Moon, Division Bell. Fun, Fun, Fun or Kokomo by the Beach Boys always makes me smile. Love music...

"We built this city on rock and roll"
Next time it comes on, sing along with it, seriously, with full vigor and passion, pumping your fist in the air and shouting it out with a straight face. Feel every note. Try to BELIEVE in it. Cannot be done. It's too cheesy. Although not a "comfort" song per se, whatever mood you are in before listening to it, that the mere act of imbibing it's cheesy-ness can do nothing less than lighten your mood. On so many levels- 1980's cheesy. How the hell could you do this to us Jorma? cheesy. I can't believe I didn't know better and actually liked it cheesy. A pure enema of 80's un-awesomeness. It's so many things, it just couldn't withstand the test of time. Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 11-23-2015 at 04:00 PM.. |

"Appalachian Spring" by Aaron Copeland and performed by the New York Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Bernstein. My dad would play it occasionally when I was a kid and it reminds me of him. I usually play it once a year on the anniversary of my dad's passing.
Not so much a "comfort" song as it is a nice window on the past.

If given the choice before the morning execution you get one song, I would probably choose Shubert's "unfinished symphony", not sure why but that is a favorite. I can't say that I am an active classical music fan but I do enjoy it on the occasion.

Hmmm. Never thought of this before. But maybe it would be John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy." I played a sport in college and after every win we'd play it in the locker room on an old boombox. And that's the only time we'd play it. So you knew it was a special thing to hear it.

My theory is that everybody has a natural frequency, and music can help get your brain back to your frequency. (sort of a modified Necholy Tesla philosophy)
Here is my "frequency"

"Turn of the century" for Yes.
"Fearless" for Pink Floyd. Quote:
![]() edit- there are a lot of good songs listed here- like traffic or turn of the century(well I'm listing my own), but a lot of them trap me in a place in time, and make me wish I was back there- then- reliving something that has passed, or something that happened even before my time. This song is timeless, like a realllllllly good wine that I was too stupid sh#$ to appreciate in the first freakin' place, is still giving up secrets and inspiring 20+ years later. This whole album does that. It just grows and grows. I hear that in the Appalachian Spring as well! fascinating- for the wilkopedia article on Appalachia Waltz reads:Appalachia Waltz is the first album from the trio of fiddler and composer Mark O'Connor, double-bassist and composer Edgar Meyer, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Sony Classical released the disc in 1996. The album announces a new kind of Americana-styled Western art music, with ancestry in old-timey, bluegrass, folk, and traditional European classical styles. It was recorded over three days, 14 August-17 August 1995. It is possible that the titles of these albums imply a continuity of the American classical tradition begun by Aaron Copland in Appalachian Spring.[citation needed] Small world indeed!
