				Well I bought a 928.

My first 928, I have had 944s and still have the SC. I am pretty stoked about it. It's an 87 S4 with 95K, everything works but it needs to be poked and proded by me until I feel confident it likes me.

Nice, I've wanted one since high school when one passed me and I heard that sweet engine sound. Been very casually looking for one myself.

Been servicing a few of these lately. Did a torque tube, PS hoses, T belt, converter seals, etc on an 88 with 86K miles. Surprisingly the cam pulleys were aluminum and coating had worn away leaving soft metal underneath to erode. Customers opted to roll the dice as they were big bucks. Still needed over 10K in worth when it left. I like the early CIS 928 for some reason. Seems more lively. The early 78s had the button by the seat to raise and lower headlights. Later the DOT told Porsche to yank it. I'd love to see how much weight could be stripped from one.

Wow, very nice car. Its looks great. My neighbor down the street has one and when he drives it pass us, he always revs his big V8 a few times, especially if my 930 is out. Its makes a pretty nice sound.

It is customary that all "I bought a 928" threads eventually contain a YouTube video proudly displaying a flyby on a deserted road. And maybe a doughnut or brief example of how well the car can drift. Just so you know.

I have two thoughts. First, what an incredible money pit you've just bought. Second: That car is badass.

How do you know you're ready for a 928? I'll tell you. Reach into your pocket and extract your wallet. Open it, reach inside and pull out one nice new, crisp, $100 bill. Light it. Repeat. When you can do this without flinching or pausing, you're ready. | ||

Nice, I've always liked them since I was a teen and saw and read about them in Road & Track. I'd love to have one of the late model GTS versions with the manual trans.

Nice! A 928S4 with a manual would be very hard for me to resist.

Pretty much sums it up. My first Porsche was a 928 back in the late 90's. Very cool car but expensive to maintain even back then. I remember having to replace a leaking rear main seal. $$$, and the early cars had aluminum front lower ball joints which I highly recommend replacing with the steel alternative before this happens. Not my car, but this is exactly what happened to mine just before getting on the freeway.

Sorry no drifting or burnout videos. It is an automatic, it is very quiet. Like my 911 I am the third owner. The Gentleman that had it before me took very detailed care of it. All service receipts back to day one. Original paint. Very pampered car. BUT.... it is 30 years old and has some trim pieces that need to be renewed. I am learning a lot about it just crawling around it. It is a very complicated car.

Good you found one from a conscientious PO. The 88 I referenced was pretty hammered. Likely the t-belt tension was set wrong or car was driven in extremely dusty environment as cam sprockets on these shouldn't be that worn below 100k miles. Cool find.

Interesting info - seems if you find one that has been pampered you could escape the damning repair expenses referenced by so many. i was browsing some Cl ads and saw a few that were rode hard and put away wet but there were a couple that were in excellent condition and obviously well cared for. This might be one of those cars worth paying up front for a well cared for example instead of a mechanic's special.
