My parents grew up during the depression and went broke farming in the Iowa dust bowl days.

So, I can't use something new till I've totally worn out what I already have.

I have new clothes in my closet over 10 years old. The hand tools in my toolbox are a miss-match of wrenches, sockets, and screw drivers.....New sets are buried on the shelf; some 20 years old and never used........

It's an illness I can't overcome....

Not surprised, I would also. I do same with electrical screws. Install bolts with nuts out, so I can see if loose. Line up screws whenever possible. Nail/drill on a pattern. eat M&Ms in color order, matching color pairs, line up bread on sandwiches, line up keys on a keyring, notches in the same direction......
