'76 930 with 19k miles - this for real?
Someone sent me this link for a 1976 930 with 19k for Government Liquidation Auction:
1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera Vin # 9306800076. Actual Documented Mileage 19,504 - Government Liquidation I'm somewhat skeptical... Vin

Records back to 87' but they don't know who painted it the current color.
So we had a 10ish year old car with under 20k that had been repainted? Not unheard of but odd.

Certificate states Copper Brown with Black interior. I doubt this has 19k miles. Looks good though.

That interior is gorgeous. If that car is supposed to be copper brown, I hope someone puts it back.

Talked to my friend about the site. The vast majority of the auction goods are government surplus and my friend states that it's legit. The autos for sale are all older vehicles, must be from a different source.
These Willys Cab Forwards are a favorite of mine: 1958 Willys FC170 4 X 4. Vin # 6156812872. Mileage reads 312 - Government Liquidation Vin

That's pretty rare for gov liquadations. Just to warn you guys from past experience. Inspections are very very basic.
When they had the DRMO rolling stock contract, if the trucks did not start with the key turned, or switch. That was it. Sold as is. Could be batteries, could be a connecting rod sticking out the side of the block.... I liked them more then govplanet, but that's a whole different thread.

Too big to fail

. Since cars built in 1976 have to SMOG in California the mileage is recorded every 2 years at the SMOG station giving us a solid record of mileage.
I tried to look it up but got "No tests were found for this vehicle!"

However, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a stolen re-VIN job. For that VIN, the interior was originally black, and the exterior copper brown. A full interior swap and complete re-spray would be a lot of work. Possible I suppose, but it just seems odd/uncommon for such a low-mileage car. Also, the exterior decal package looks stock, and would be an unlikely addition on a fresh re-spray. Speaking of miles, I have serious doubts that car has 19k original miles. Another sign that it may be a re-VIN. It would be interesting to cross-check the engine and gearbox serial numbers to see if they match the COA as well. I hope the winning bidder does their due-diligence, and also reads the fine print. That 12.5% buyer's premium might sting a bit (it's already @ $90k). |

re-stamped VIN most likely
Obviously the ext and int colors are incorrect but were they changed or was the VIN plate changed?
1. VIN says 1976 but interior is from a 1977 and appears quite complete. 2. brake booster in front trunk was offered in 1977, not 1976. 3. I've seen the car; the Ivory paint is not original because it's lifted in many spots, but there's no indication of a Copper color underneath. What makes the interior 1977? 1. AC vents should be below the dash, not in the middle. 2. speedo should be 150mph, not 180mph. 3. door lock knob on door panel shouldn't be a twist knob in 1976. 4. rear seat stitch pattern should be horizontal in 1976 and vertical in 1977. The car is missing its A-pillar VIN tag. I think the front trunk VIN tag was spliced into this car from a donor 1977 Ivory/Brown car. |

How are you seeing an auction from 4 years ago?
