Do you like tequila?

Getting beyond buzzed is no Bueno. But the occasional sipping tequila is kinda nice. Especially around a campfire. No shots!

Here is my new fav.

You?

I have had one, and only one, port to port pass, beyond buzzed, with Agave tequilana.

It involved a 19-year-old (me), running rivers, a big woman and the metaphysical.

In '90 or '91 I discovered the more tequila you drink, the more magick mushrooms you can eat. And coincidentally, the more mushrooms you eat, the more tequila you can drink. It was a very interesting 36+ hours, and neither tequila nor mushrooms have passed my lips since.

Back when I was in my mid 20s and my little head did most of my decision making I found a new chick that loved Tequila. I figured I had a great find. That chick was a professional drinker and could kill a liter bottle of Tequila in an evening.

I sort of remember parts of that evening. I do remember waking up under the table. My face had the imprint of the rug nap. It is the only time in my life I ever got that drunk. I have not done it since, never will again.

She was a lot of fun but I decided a professional level alcoholic drunk chick was not for me long term. It was a wise decision for a 20 something man to use the big head for a change.

I will stick to beer.

I think the last time I had tequila was my 21st birthday, when all my buddies kept buying me shots. That was a messy night, and I think I swore off ever drinking it straight , in shots, ever again.

I like Vodka, but it gives me big headaches, so I stick to beer.

Nothing is worse to drink than bad tequila. But almost nothing is better than really great tequila.

Tequilia is great assuming you get a good one.

Partida Reposado is a favorite of mine.

single estate? is that a Mexican version of single malt or non blended wine?

I gotta be honest and say I don't grasp the concept of alcohol without the buzz.

The Reposado from Casa Amigos is as smooth and as tasty as I've had, short of some 350.00 bottles ( Casa Dragones)
I gave up Vodka a few years ago, in favor of fine tequila…I prefer something I can sip all night and not wind up on the floor.
Like or not George Clooney, but he knows his Tequila. The Anejo is a bit too oakey for my taste.

^ I could see how you'd feel that way. But the oakey taste is also accompanied with mellowness and smooths out the almost sour alcohol nasal sting. I'll post when I find an empty bottle that I kept several years ago of some tasty tequila.

That's what i like about the Casa Amigos Reposada.
Smooth and stingless and very tasty.
The level of smoothness and oakiness, etc will certainly vary by brand.

I have really *tried* to like tequila over the years.

One particular night in Tonga following shots I decided it would great fun to teach the bar girl how to drive in my rental car. The rest of the night is a blank but I woke up in the back seat of the rental next to a beach miles from where I had started with the engine still running and no one else to be seen. Weird

I could be completely wrong, and the labels all indicate the same level of alcohol ( more or less), but the Blanco's seem to be made for mixing into cocktails, and appear to provide more of a buzz, but still not as potent ( to me) as vodka.

I know if I have 1 good vodka martini on an empty stomach, I'm getting a buzz.
Two and I'm not driving home for a while.
Tequila, on the other hand, two and I'm barely buzzed.
Unless it's a restaurant with a reputation for tequila, I've taken to ordering whatever blanco they have, straight up…cold like a martini., with a zest of lime.

I've never actually purchased a bottle of Tequila in my life. I've drank enough of it at parties and in bars to be relatively sure I cannot stand the stuff. If I'm unfortunate enough to get a bottle as a gift or something, I'll use it for lighting the barbecue or for cleaning parts in the garage.
