Common theme in this thread - selling property. Not knowing better we sold our home with each move when we should have leased them instead. Mortgage costs were low so leasing would have covered the debt and netted us a couple K monthly. Baring a catastrophe I don't intend to sell CA property again.

Maybe not buying a bunch of Ford stock (I thought of it) in about 2009 when it was like $1/share.

Somehow I managed to sell my 1970 911E on the very day that the prices were the lowest.

Buying a brand new 1997 993TT in November of 1996. Selling it in 2000 with 3,600 miles for $85K to buy a 1985 Porsche race car, trailer, and truck. Today's low mileage 993TT value...$200,000. The race car?...Wrecked, scrapped for parts.

No big regrets. Should have bought a second house during the down turn, but that's wise to say now. Would have stressed me out. Not having stress beats extra money in the bank if you already have some money in the bank ...

Not moving to the US earlier. An extra 10 years would've been nice for the nest egg. But then again, being young and stupid I may have ended up to my eyeballs in credit card debt here, which is worse than if it happened where I came from.

I bought a Groupon for a Korean burger place, was supposed to be awesome. $15 for two burgers, regularly about $25. Place went out of business 6 weeks later and I didn't get to use it.

Advising my mother not to buy real estate in Vancouver BC 20 years ago. I said that being an absentee landlord was too much trouble.
Marrying my first wife but I learned a lot about choosing a good wife. Second wife is great.

Sold a couple of cars I wish I hadn't, modified current car and didn't hang on to original drivetrain. Took the quickest route versus the scenic route a coupe of times, wonder what I missed.

As the common theme here goes, I sold my 964 turbo a little before the current prices.
After my divorce I was renting a house and the owner wanted to sell it. Not wanting to move and at the same time keeping the kids close to their friends (same neighborhood as their mom), I decided to sell it to get the down payment on my house. While the car prices have gone up, the value of the house has gone up 6 figures, so I am not too upset. I replaced it with a 996TT which is much more user friendly and I don't worry about a $35K engine rebuild if something goes wrong. |

Bingo! The more stuff you have, the more stuff you have to take care of. Choose your stuff carefully.

A stock I got in 1991. Bought it for $1/share. Sold it at $10/share to get rid of a business partner. Thought I did great. About 10 years later, after stocks splits and M&A activity the stock went to $350/share. I had 10,000 shares.
![]() I've been fortunate since so I don't whine about it. Too much...

Buying my first house in the good ol days of Jimmy Carter and getting a great deal on a mortgage of only 12.5% for 20 years. Some rates were 18% for 30 year notes!
I should have just saved more money but that meant more rent money wasted. In the long run it worked out.

Siting at my office in 2009 telling my co-worker how cheap Wells Fargo stock was and they would never go under, not to mention they didn't take a bailout!
Did I listen to myself? Of course not...until a bunch of years later. Doing decent with it, but oh my could have been retired right now.
