What a nightmare! Disney gator attack.

Alligator attacks 2-year-old boy at Disney World, recovery effort continues - Orlando Sentinel

2-year-old boy who was attacked and dragged into the water by an alligator on the shores of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Tuesday night was still missing early Wednesday morning.

Jeff Williamson with Florida Fish & Wildlife said the child had not been located. Deputies are in the water and air, calling it a search and rescue operation.

"Right now we're going to bring in some fresh eyes and continue with the search," Williamson said. "Prepare for the worst, hope for the best."

Wouldn't the child's remains be in the alligator's belly? Seems this "rescue" operation is more symbolic than hopeful.

WOW, what a public relations nightmare, not to mention the horror for the family of the lost child. I can imagine there will be huge reparcussions in the wake of this incident.

Not necessarily. Please excuse my candor but the boys body may have been stashed away by the alligator.

I really hope & pray it works out for the best.

Come visit Disney World, KIDS EATEN FOR FREE...

Be the first one on your block to have your kid eaten by a Gator at Disney World.

Come on Visit us at Disney World where kids get eaten by the Gators.

Does anyone need to spell it out...lawsuit, and a public relations nightmare...betcha tourist traffic falls off.

Every resort place I have been around Orlando has warning signs every couple feet along the water. Can't imagine the parents NOT knowing the potential hazard. So my vote is bad parenting. I have a 20 month old. Yes she gets out of sight once in a while. But never around stuff that wants to eat her.

Sad for the family.

Seminole fans never did like Gators.

After living here for 5 years now, we have gotten used to being very careful around ANY body of water. Alligators are everywhere and they are sneaky f*kkers.

Could not imagine what the family is experiencing. Sad.

Condolences to the family. I can't imagine what a nightmare they must be going through. I have a two year-old, too.

i'm not saying they don't have signs but we've been several times in the past few years and i don't recall seeing them. the resorts have beaches around the lake which are presumably for the purpose of enjoying the water. IIRC they closed the natural pool at Ft Wilderness years ago due to bacterial issues.

GF is their premier resort. Families staying there will likely be well off and not unaccustomed to dealing with attorneys.

frankly i think WDW needs a wakeup on this issue.

We have no intrinsic right to be safe. The world in which we live remains, in places, very dangerous indeed. We go to those places at our peril, regardless of how gussied up they may be. Being unaware of the risks, or discounting the risks of approaching a body of water in gator country, can obviously have some pretty dire consequences.

We are seeing this more and more as detached urbanites venture ever more into these dangerous places. Look at the increase in injuries and deaths in places like Yellowstone, from getting gored by a bison who doesn't want to be in your selfie to getting boiled in a bubbling cauldron after wandering over 200 yards off of the "safe" viewing point.

Nobody should have to tell these people they are at risk, and nobody else should be held responsible for their ignorance of the risk. Harsh words, but this whole tragedy is on the family. They have no right to blame anyone else. I just hope the poor little guy didn't suffer.
