This is / was my Father's building in a small town where I grew up in Northern VA. Prior it belonged to my uncle; dad's twin brother. They both served as officers in WWII, my dad in the European theatre.

Every July 4th, I pick my older brother up, head down there early to catch the sunrise. Then we clean and polish the embossed letters so to honor them.

I have been wondering will 2026 and our 250th birthday be anything like the bicentennial celebrations we enjoyed in 1976?
There were still a lot of US flags flying in our small town on the 4th.

In our small town, I think every 'cherry picker'/bucket truck was in use hold up the US flag.

Very cool legacy to honor.

Thank you for sharing, AG. Really wonderful that you and your older brother do this.

After a 20 year career in the Navy, my Dad became an employment counselor for the Virginia Employment Commission and worked at an office on Granby Street in downtown Norfolk.

I have one of Dad's cards and a Granby Street street sign - plus the memories of his stories about helping so many folks with career advice and employment.

We are both so lucky to have fathers we respect and honor, even though they are no longer with us.

Thanks for your Dad's and Uncle's service!

I was thinking about this yesterday and wondering the same thing. I had just gotten my driver's license (FREEDOM!) and Frampton Came Alive back then ....

Happy birthday to US

Happy 248 to the great American democratic experiment.
I will be where I was in 1976 for the 200th Birthday as a young single guy in VW bug and a tent.
Plan to be at the same place for #250 in a Porsche at my vacation home on the Colorado River.
It was a 50/50 chance back then, but opportunity knocked on my door and I'm very grateful for that.

http://www.pappaspost.com/the-classical-education-of-the-founding-fathers-was-greek-almost-the-official-language-of-the-united-states/

so every president, except one, has English as their first language. Guess which did not? Hint: Their Last Name.

More Presidential Trivia: Which president was sworn in aboard an aircraft?

Which president was sworn in aboard an aircraft? Johnson after Kennedy assassination?
