Of course, its diesels that the taxi drivers use here, not petrol

that's a good thought in theory, just does not apply to an A4, which is mundane. Especially if not quattro. I'd use your quote for an S4 - fun cars, all of them - but not a run of the mill A4.

My dealer paid $7000 in warranty claims the first year I had my CPO S4...My wife had a new 06 back when - spent more time at the shop than on the road - we kept it 6 months and traded it in.

And we know risk - she 's owned nothing but Land rovers since (ironically dead reliable, go figure, eh?)

I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse than an Audi.

I'd say "I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse than an Audi outside of warranty".

While covered, they are fun cars (if quattro - ottherwise you just bought yourself a more expensive VW). The B8 S4 I owned is to date one of the most fun cars I ever owned. Sold it 1 month before CPO expiration ;-)

I had a 2006 A4 Quattro sport model, the sport is stiffer suspension and better seats. I traded it for the 2013 A4 I currently drive which now has 42K miles on it. It was the first gen 2.0L turbo engine.

The 06 was traded with 135k miles on it, things I did was at 100K timing belt and water pump. The ac was acting up when I sold it.

Normally, I would drive the A4 to 165-170K miles. Engine and trans are reliable for at least 200K, its all the other parts that can be pain. I always run synthetic oil and change every 6K, swepco in trans and rear end and change brake fluid every 2-3 yrs.

I will drive this 2013 for 7 more yrs which should be about 160K, cost about 3K per yr +.

If you get one, I'd suggest a V6. I've owned at least a dozen Audis and haven't had much trouble with them. My daily driver is still an '03 S8 and I can't remember the last problem it had.

All cars can need something, so do a PPI on the car and vet the previous owners.

you really don't have to take the front clip out like that for t-belt service.

High pressure fuel pump issues
carbon build up
cooling system malfunctions
front cntrol arm bushings
grenaded engines due to oil pump lock up

list goes on.....

They are 4-5k dollar cars for a reason. Nightmare to deal with as they get older.
