police threaten to boycott 49ers games

Quote:
In a letter obtained by KNTV, the Santa Clara police union told the 49ers organization that officers wouldn’t work at the stadium if it doesn’t “take action” against Kaepernick over his protest. The station noted that about 70 Santa Clara police officers work eight home games per year.

So police get to decide whether to do their jobs based on the political views of the citizen?

Agree with your POV sentiment wise but it's a bit more complicated than that.

When the POPO pull that kind of duty it's a work for hire situation.

They are contracted and paid for that duty separate from the general fund so yes they can actually decline the contract.

Least that's the way it works around here.

So the stadium can hire private and the cops can respond to calls and use all the on-duty manpower. Actually the cops would probably love it, because they would have to ask for more money from the city to cover the "new"costs, created by their stunt.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Why should 49er employees be treated as if they are anything special? If they cannot act like they want to be contributing members of society, what obligation does society have to them? Why shouldn't the police be allowed to "draw attention to" their plight if every other panty-waited crybaby is allowed to do so? Why haven't the folks that are calling for firing police called for getting rid of the embarrassment that wears clothes with pictures of pigs dressed in police uniforms on them?

The protest is about police doing their jobs.

That's how it works out here in the west too. They can decline the contract. 49ers can then hire staffpro or whatever other security company they want. Its not a matter of cops deciding to do their job or not.

The genie is out of the bottle on this issue. I'm not at all interested in the NFL. I was a 20 season Chicago Bear season ticket holder and I gave up on football. I'm not beholden to the media, hype and profit of the NFL. They have big problems with head injuries, domestic violence and drugs and yet I'm going to worry about some guy not standing for the national anthem.

The NFL bans a QB for multiple games for tampering with footballs but gives lip service to domestic abuse. The dissent will grow.

So much for national pastimes.

Sounds like young Colin needs a good old fashioned beat down. You know, traffic stop for a "tail light out", quickly turning to "resisting arrest", culminating with a serious, possibly career ending ass kickin'. Like the good old days...

Ah crap, there's too many cameras out there now. Scratch that idea. Maybe the cops can simply refuse to work during their off hours, off duty, moonlighting as security for an organization that apparently supports this sort of ass hattery. Make the 49ers hire amateurs and then suck up the liability when one of these mall ninjas goes all "tactical" on some drunken fan.

These cops have no duty-bound obligation to work these games. Good on them for banding together and standing up for what is right. Maybe this will snowball all the way to the city not allowing the 49ers to play until they can straighten out their security situation. Maybe then they will be forced to deal appropriately with their million dollar cry baby.

The futbol team in Syria is looking for a Muslim QB. Sounds like a virgin-made in heaven spot for Colon K.

Misspelled intentionally.

People need to realize that the police are under no obligation to do ANYTHING. They recently have been (at least around here) pretty blatant about refusing to do things that don't involve giving themselves more money and power too. They pretty routinely blow off calls they can't be bothered with.

Think about that the next time you hear some politician crowing about the need to "put more cops on the street" or that we need more laws to "prevent vigilantism". If the proverbial stuff ever hit the fan I wouldn't be at all surprised to see most of the cops sitting at home chilling out while society burned to ashes around them. As long as those paychecks keep coming and it doesn't endanger their ability to get easy overtime or jeopardize their pension plans any (pretty much a guarantee no matter what they do thanks to lobbying by the police unions), I doubt a lot of them would really give too much of a fk.

They recently published all state employee salaries online - being curious I did a search in descending order of salary. The first 30-40 pages were ALL either university employees or state police, some making well over $200k a year and a considerable number in the $300k-$400k range. No joke. These are state police milking OT for sitting in cruisers while road crews are digging up the highways for the most part - total gravy train (do a construction project around here and tell me you don't get shaken down for mandatory police details as a condition of permit...). Tell me what the priority is again?

FWIW this QB is an idiot. The team / league is acting foolishly to avoid taking a position on it (their official policy is "it's up to the individual but standing for the NA is 'encouraged'". I hope he gets fired and / or gets to meet a few navy sailors on shore leave or something. I bet they could teach him a thing or two about our country's values. Perhaps (even better) he can find a new country more to his liking - I would suggest Sudan, Yemen, North Korea or perhaps Somalia. I could care less about pro sports or the NFL. Screw 'em.

I don't agree with Kaps not standing for the flag.
For the record he did not make a blanket statement about all cops.
His issue is with the rogue racist cops.....and the protection they get from department and fellow officers.

As to not working the game, oh! well no easy overtime pay for them.
More work for mall cops.
