Once again, Black Friday campers...

Let's say you pull every brass ring (to turn a phrase...) and get a bunch of doorbuster stuff, yadda yadda, and maybe end up saving, what, $400-500? That is being the EXTREME case? But to do that, you needed to camp out for 48 hours in the cold. Give up 2 days of work or whatever you do during the day, have pizzas delivered to the line so you can eat, etc.

Don't you think that you spent more than $400 in various costs (food, lose of work, etc)?

Why not just go to work for those two days and make enough to go and buy the item at full price next week? Even more so, the people who camp for 2 days then only save $100, or $50. That turns out to be negative economics!

So, which of YOU have camped? You know someone here has done it...fess up...

Does 24 hours for concert tickets count?
It was a damn good time however

Soo, I think it depends on your employment status?

For most of us, the numbers are far worse, most users on this board probably convert time to money at much higher than average. You'd have to do it because you enjoyed it.

Did that a few times. It really wasn't for the tix, it was the experience. Not sure I want to do that for a blender...

The silliest tradition ever. It's kind of dying out.

Well, I despise shopping and crowds. Camping out to be in a mad rush to shop is a bit of torture for me. No thanks. Ever.

My wife said there was a nice gun safe, and half off 9mm ammo at Rural King on Thursday morning.....my response ?.....how much will it be on Saturday, cause i'm not fighting the crowds.

I have never, and will never take part in "Black Friday" events.

As jyl said, it is dying slowly.
It is not Black Friday anymore, it is Black Friday Week now. Or Cyber Monday -> Cyber Monday Week.

I would not wait in line that long for anything at all. To save money buying crap, no way in hell. I went to the mall three weeks ago to go to one specific store. I looked up the location of that store on-line. I parked at the side of the mall where the store was. In and out in minutes for $3.00 total. I will not be back to a mall until I need jeans. I have learned that trying them on is just too important with the low production quality now days.

I have not been inside a Wal-Mart or K-Mart in decades, no plans to go back.

I can buy 90% of my needed goods on line. Delivered right to me for less money. Win Win.

Camped out for student section tickets before. We'll all plug in our laptops and do homework all night. Was worth it.

For black Friday... Ha no way in hell.

I do not like crowds... however I think some people are into the black friday thing as a sport... I know guys that will sit in the woods for hours, to hunt for meat... I find going to the local butcher much more productive.

For the few black Friday shoppers I know it's more of a fun family tradition. Thankfully my wife and I have no such tradition. That Friday is a sleep in day for us.

Have never done it before. (Though I camped out overnight for hockey season tickets in college, once.)

Should I be glad or disappointed that I haven't been unemployed enough to do so for a long, long time?

To each their own. I find it kind of sad and pathetic that some people would revolve their life around being mindless consumers. Says something (unflattering) about our society.

I have never and would never do this. In fact I don't usually go near any retail stores at all at all from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I make it a point not to. Most of my gifts for other people (which I keep pretty simple, non-extravagant and reasonable) are already bought and I'll get a few more things online over the coming weeks. That's it. I don't expect or really want anyone to spend money - I'd rather some good time off, some company, some good conversation and maybe a week vacation between xmas and New Years (looking into that now).

This whole thing is a pretty asinine tradition that shines a spotlight on the worst parts of American "culture" if you ask me, but whatever... if that's what you like, have fun (and I feel sorry for you).
