A real honorable man admits things, especially when faced with insurmountable evidence. They don't slither around. Embarrassing. Sad.

Edit: A real honorable man admits wrongs without any prompting whatsoever.

Im sure I shouldn't write this, but I read all of these posts and i think both of you have creative interpretations of each others posts

Since you need help, a mapping translation:

"Dirtbags" = miscreants
"Lacking morals" = Immoral
"Bait and switch guys" = parasitic, blood suckers

You didn't say anything like this about the Pelican BBS guys, huh, Fint? It's not right there in your posts? Of course not, I hacked into PPOT and inserted those words into your posts.

Just adding the word "only" made you a liar. The rest just compounded your lack of honesty. An honest man would not need a "mapping translation" to attempt to prove he did not misrepresent what another said as he would not have substituted the words of his choosing, nor put them in a different context and added modifiers like "only" which totally change the meaning.

I think I am about through wallowing in the mud with you...but feel free to continue without me.

our house just sold for over asking. wtf do i do now?
refund the difference?

EMJ 09-02-2016 09:08 AM

Sad, sad, sad, Fint.... But we all know the truth. Don't tout "honor" and "morals" to us all and display this blatant hypocrisy of anything but that to the board. You've really shown a disturbing level of blatant dishonesty and shamefulness in your sad and pathetic attempts at muddying that which is very clear. So long... I see you're already getting blasted on the other thread. Surprise, surprise....SmileWavySmileWavySmileWavy

That's not a good analogy and that's not what we are discussing. A better analogy would be me advertising a desk on CL for $500. A guy calls and says he really wants to see the desk but cant make it until 7:30. I promise to hold it for him but for reasons unknown still show the desk to others even though I promised to hold it. A fellow shows up and offers me $550.00 but I say no because I promised to hold the desk for the first guy. Then I start a thread called "keeping your word" explaining how important it is to keep your word and how slimy people are when they break it. During the course of this thread I discover the desk is actually worth 750.00 instead of the 500 I originally advertised it for. When the 7:30 guy shows up I raise the price to 750.00 and finish the sale. "Keeping your word" lol

Of course you should continue to show it and entertain offers.

You only promised to not sell it before he could look at it.

He still has to make an acceptable offer.

If someone else makes a better offer before he shows up you do what OP did, accept his offer, which is not an agreement to sell it to him, it's simply saying if the other guy does not take it or I don't sell it to him then you are next in line, unless someone else comes along and beats his offer.

7:30 guy may not have been happy but apparently was not so upset that he told OP to **** off and left without buying the car.

A decision made of free will unless OP held a gun to his head and promised either his signature or his brains would be on the check. ;)

Agreed, but the person that showed up only offered $250.00 more than the original asking price of 28K. You would be correct if he sold it for slightly above the $28,250, but the price of $32k was not arrived upon because of any prior offers, it was due to to new information and a re-price. This is the part that seems unscrupulous.

Turn it around... Ever consider that the buyers were unscrupulous because they knew the market price and the seller didn't? So they get the "steal" because of poor due diligence by the seller? I don't think so. Seller ramped up, caught up with the "market price" and adjusted the price for a win-win for both. I don't see an issue with it.

Personally, I wouldn't take advantage of an uninformed seller as I'm simply not motivated by $ enough to do that and I wouldn't like myself very much. I believe in being fair...to BOTH parties, and then both end up being happy...seems that's what happened here.

Amail 09-02-2016 11:37 AM

If I see a car advertised on CL for $28k, call and make an appointment to see it, I'd be pretty pissed if the guy springs a higher price once I get there. If, however, at the time I make the appointment he tells me the price is now $32k, I think that's fine - I haven't wasted my time or gas.

If I were the seller, I'd have called the first guy back and told him a) the price is now $32k, or b) I'm pulling it off the market. Waiting for him to show up and spring the $4k price increase on him seems douchey to me (I'm making a big assumption about how this all went down, mind you).

....

Just curious....would you go prepared to pay 28k, regardless of condition? If not, would you expect the seller to be pissed off about wasting his time if you didn't pay his askng price?

No, and no. His asking price is $28k. If I believe the condition warrants a lower price, I'd offer a lower price. If the condition warrants a higher price, I'd offer his asking price. I have never put a car up for sale at a stated price and then gotten more than asking, nor would I expect to. Any seller pissed that you won't offer his asking price is not facing reality.

There are exceptions, though. If I showed up with $28k and saw before me a mint 1973 RS, I'd tell him to take the car off the market and find out what it's worth.

If he were to offer the car stating "Accepting offers from $28k to $32k", then I would not expect him to take my $28k necessarily.

fintstone 09-02-2016 12:07 PM

The difference is that the seller knew the condition of the car when he set the price. The buyer did not.

OP had no obligation to disclose what the higher offer was.

Were it me I'd simply have said I have a standing higher offer and let the buyer counter.

When you play poker with your buddies do you show them your cards after you raise?

KFC911 09-02-2016 12:30 PM

I wonder if Henry's buyer knows PP exists...it would be interesting to hear his take on the transaction...maybe restore Henry's integrity, and keep Henry from burning in hell for all of eternity, or much worse...demomized on PPOT :)

Exactly. And this is exactly what the OP said was discussed with the prospective buyer and they agreed on terms. Frankly, given the market, 94k on the clock, and clean, $32k is a steal. The OP could've held out a couple of days and fielded higher offers easily if he wanted to.

Post #95 is in the OP's own words..

After reading all the repleys here, I realized that the car was underpriced, after all, it is a Targa and the color is Guards Red! According to most people here there not really in high demand. Lol. When the 7:30 guy came I told him the price was in the 30's now and he offered 32k. I accepted. I may have priced the car low, but after reading the comments on this post there's no way I was going to let it go for 28k. Go ahead and let the bashing begin! I can't wait! 👍🍻😀

I dont think people actually read sometimes. This went down exactly as I've been saying all along. He waited until the 7:30 guy showed up and then sprang the new price on him. That is a douche move. It took 279 comments btw.. :D

EMJ 09-02-2016 02:15 PM

Nothing new there, Rod. We already know this information and no one's disputing it. If the guy would've shown up early, and not in the evening after others had driven the price up, probably would've gotten it for $28k. This has been covered already. $32k was the new buy price based on interest/offers - buyer accepted.
