When I was writing the first draft, I said, "I wonder if anybody would get it when someone said "Frau Blücher" and the horses neigh. Mel (Brooks) said, "Keep it in." Well, the audience loved it in the previews.

Actually, I chose the name because I wanted an authentic German name. I took out some of the books I had of the letters to and from Sigmund Freud. I saw someone named Blücher had written to him, and I said well that's the name. Later on, I heard from about two or three sources, who said Blücher refers to a horse going to a factory and being turned to glue. I just thought it was a funny name.

Absolutely. Blazing Saddles would not have been made a few years earlier and you'd never be able to make a film like that today.

"Abby something." Classic. I remember Mel Brooks promoting the movie as being made in "black and white and cardboard."

I'm a regular viewer of Turner Classic Movies and whenever a star passes, the station airs a short clip called, TCM Remembers, which reflects on the loss. A couple of nights ago, they aired the memorial for Gene Wilder. For some reason, that simple homage struck home as to the effect he had on me as I began to choke-up. Something I had never done and would not likely do for any given star or celebrity. I think it made me realize that the humor, kindness, and humanity that made his characters so great were truly a part of who he was, and that will be greatly missed.

Thanks for the video post, Tobra. I suspect a lot of people here will be tuning in on Sept. 29th.

Mr Wilder reminds me of my Grandfather more than a little, wild hair, startlingly blue eyes.

Sat next to him in a plane once. I just said "Hi Mr. Wilder, nice to meet you" He shook my hand and said "Thanks", I never bothered him again, and we didn't speak again.

AMC theaters are showing back-to-back screenings of 'Wonka' and 'Blazing Saddles' this Saturday and Sunday.

Never seen either on the big screen, but for $5 for either, yeah.

Saw Willie Wonka when it was a first run movie. Pestered the folks mercilessly because I had read the book like 20 times at that point.
