This thread prompted me to shop my ATT plan which has been getting progressively more expensive. Called ATT and said I was considering changing. They did basically nothing more than give me a bit more data. Cost was still over $300 for five lines and 16 data. Called Verizon, 16 gigs and $190. I'll be switching on Tuesday.

TL;DR: Verizon is crap for what you pay, T-Mobile offers more for less.
Also a T-Mobile convert here. I got my whole immediate family to switch: Mom & Dad, Sister, FIL/MIL. I was with Verizon for close to 10 years, was paying $195/month WITH a 15% employer discount (Dow Jones & Co), for just 2 lines. Limited to 5GB data shared across both lines. I wanted a new OnePlus 2 but it does not work on Verizon's network. Started shopping around different plans and T-Mobile had a promo going for family plans, 10GB each line, reimbursing any early cancellation charges from your current provider. In the end got a family plan of 4 lines, voice + 10GB each line, plus a dedicated data/tablet line 10GB with no enrollment/activation fees, reimbursed closed to $800 towards Verizon's cancellation charges for a total of: $135.80 per month. I was amazed at how much money I had thrown away with Verizon over the last few years. T-Mobile has definitely improved with service coverage - I even got free SMS + 2G data in all of Europe. No extra charge for 4G in Canada. Australia however was criminal and I bought a SIM card while there just for data.

Speed test is consistently much faster on T Mobile LTE than on my home WiFi. So it seems I should just leave my phone WiFi switched off most of the time?

![]() As soon as daughter landed in Germany and turned on her phone, she received this text. Cool. Way better than ATT who would want $50 for a one month international plan with a couple GB of data and hefty overage charges.

ATT still thinks they are the pinnacle of excellence. LOL. Constantly getting caught pulling scummy tactics on their customers and getting their asses beat by VZW, forever.

I call up ATT to question since I had free texting. Rep tells me, correct, you have free pay to text. ![]() ![]() ![]() Free pay to text? "Yes, your texting plan is free." OK, so why the charges? "You pay per text." But you just said my plan is free? "Correct, you don't pay to text, you just pay for the texts." Soooo, you are not charging me to have the service but I pay if I use the service. "Correct" ![]()

PS with all the offers to buy out contracts and switch, why not take advantage of it?
I threaten Verizon annually and always get free perks out of them. Just broke out of my contract 4 months early with a threat to switch to T mobile due to a failing phone. Got a good deal. Remember, cell phone plans are always evolving to keep up with competition, if you see a good deal on TV, sooner or later your carrier will likely match it. rjp

We switched back to T-Mobile after several years with AT&T. The T-Mobile coverage, especially in rural areas, has really improved. And it is 4G LTE.
