I thought you lived down there. More likely a hobo spider than a recluse if it happened down in California. Warm moist compress is what you want for that. 800 mg of ibuprofen will take the edge off the pain.

Warm, salt water soaks would be good too. Take the antibiotics on time until they are gone.

I saw more rattle snakes in a month of summer camp in Malibu than I have seen in Florida in my whole life time... Believe me - you have your share of nasty critters....

But you can say "At least we aren't in Australia!"

The things that CAN bite you in the Arctic will definitely remove flesh, but I suppose you can at least see them coming before you get bit...

Did you wait a day or two then visit the MD? Four days since or four days total?

That poison must be vicious for it still to be throbbing.

Human enzymes cannot break down spider venom. That is why it processes so slowly.

Get well soon, Sam.

I average 4-5 scorpion kills per night in the backyard, that many per year in the house, about five black widow kills in the garage and yard per year and, just last week, had a decent size tarantula land on a glue trap in the garage. I fear my day is coming.

Dood - you list your location as 'cave' and creek' and 'Arizona'. Probably some sort of connection there!

Ouch.

I doubt it is a brown recluse. I don't think they are common at all in CA. My bet is on black widow. You can look up black widow bites, some look similar to yours.

Good luck with the recovery. It is ugly, will hurt, but you'll get out of it for sure. Keep posting, we are rooting for you and looking forward to a picture of a fully intact hairy finger!

George

With all the expertise of an "internet nijna" I would guess it is not a brown recluse. They usually hide indoors, in attics and closets. Hence the recluse part. On a trash can outdoors is sounds like a Hobo spider or a Black Widow. Not that any of that makes yer finger feel better.

Of course it could be that bad pookie and rare triple hybrid "Reclusive Widow Hobo" and it never seems to give super powers, unless making pain and puss is a super power.

Hey, what makes the most sense is a Hobo spider. Now we don't call people hobos, they are hippies or and we all know Sammy hates Hippies.

Good news today:
While it doesn't look much better, it feels allot better and it is draining (constantly).
I take that as a good sign that the immune system is winning.

I figure this could take months to heal but as least I'm not gonna looose nuthin in the process

Draining is definitely good compared to hard as a rock and painful.

A friend of ours was bitten by a recluse when we lived in southern Cali. They are there.

Yep, and an even better way to take your mind off the pain of the bite is Dicken's Cider.
