Requesting opinions on the FN PS90 as a SHTF gun?

Light, very compact, portable, usable in small spaces, fifty round capacity, but sort of a weird cartridge?

Most people probably wouldn't know it's a gun - so that's a plus.

I have one and love it. Super easy to shoot and a ton of fun, ammo is oddball but easy to find at just about any gun or outdoor store. Quiet as a .22 with nearly zero recoil, easy for even kids to shoot. Well made and very easy to tear down for cleaning. Awesome purchase.

Interesting little bullpup style rifle. As mentioned above, low recoil and easy to shoot. Large magazine capacity. Downside would be somewhat pricey ammo, relatively low muzzle energy. And, the FMJ round is not legal in most places. The available bullet designs are hollow point bullets with a lesser penetration ability. With all that said, I've considered buying one a couple of times myself!

I guess I tend to stay with the more 'conventional' calibers.
But no doubt it's well made.

Actually the ammo isn't bad, my local Cabelas is about $22 for a box of 50.

My next order will be online and in quantity. I am terrible at planning ahead for ammo purchases so it tends to be spur of the moment.

Buddy had one. Fun range toy. Egonomics aren't bad, but different. Hated the default grey ring sight... Mags are a PITA to load... but you can load 'em Sunday and shoot all week. Round sucks for reloading - lots of neck failures, requires teh special lube, etc. Can't get the "super awesome" ammo as a civilian, and of course we'll never see a working happy switch being legal for civilians. For $1500+ there are a lot of other guns I'd buy first...

I put a cheapo Bushnell TRS-25 micro red dot on mine and am really happy with it. Knock on wood but I've never had an issue, even with cheap ammo. I also don't find the mags bad to load, probably just as easy as my AR.

Have one and the Five Seven chambered in the same round.

It would change the zombie shooting protocol .308 x2 to the chest .5.56 x 3 or 4 to the chest 5.7 x5-7 to the chest, that's why you have 50 rounds in the mag

depend on the bullet used. Since the good stuff is banned from import just imagine you are shooting a 22 hornet or similar.

What is involved in legally making the PS90 into a SBR?

The 16" barrel seems awkwardly long for this design.

With the mil/police spec round and a shorter barrel these are carried by the Secret Service and other agencies for close quarters work. The 5.7x28 was originally designed as an round that could pierce body armor. I think you can source the good ammo online but I have never tried.

As for the SBR, around here you just need to fill out some paperwork and wait a month or so. A friend of mine has done it several times, apparently most of the gunsmith shops help you through the application process. I may do it with mine one of these days.

Also worth noting in regards to the 5.7x28, FN also makes a full sized pistol called the Five-Seven with a 20 round capacity. Supposedly it's a really sweet shooter with very minimal recoil and very accurate. It's on my short wish list.

More than a month. More like 6-18 months depending on what state you are in. Heck one shop submitted thousands of forms on the last day to register stuff as an living trust without having to re-include/re-check all members of the trust - whatever state they are in it will easily add a year to the backlog for anything submitted afterwards.

In addition to the time, you need fingerprints ($50-100) and a couple of passport photos ($10-20), the $200 tax stamp. No longer need CLEO sign off but they do get notified...

Is the gun trust stuff a big hassle? Sounds like if you ever hope to own an NFA gun, the gun trust is the way to go? Do people set these up without needing to hire a lawyer?

Trusts are/were used for a few things -

1) Bypass CLEO sign off/permission. Lots of county sherriffs wouldn't sign off on the purchase, even though it really should've been a notice and not a request for permission.

2) Allow multiple people to be in possession of or have access to the NFA item

3) Reduce costs - no finger prints needed for everyone in the trust, etc.

4) Should someone on the trust die, the trust is still the owner so no extra paperwork/transferring/etc. needed. With individually owned stuff an inheritance is transferred tax-stamp free BUT the item is "in jail" while the new owner is checked, which takes months. Supposedly the executor of teh estate is in charge of the item, but can't use it, etc. And there may/could be issues if the executor isn't allowed to own/possess.

Recent BATFE decisions have rendered #1 moot - now the CLEO is notified you are buying, but they don't have to give their permission. And #3 as well - for trust transfers each member has to have the finger printing, passport photo done and submitted with each application.
