My grandfather was a survivor on the USS West Virginia. Here's his blurb from their site:

The nazi germans taught us how to reach the moon.
The unit 731 japanese taught us about medical proceedures. All sanctioned by the US government. That was about 80 years ago. |

...and you teach us how to mangle a simple tribute to those that stood this day on a supposed quiet Sunday morn.

Britain gave the world parliamentary democracy, the United States let the world keep it.
Australia will always remember the US Navy and Marines, and what America, and Americans, did for us in WWII. Thanks.

Thank you to all that have served. Sincere thanks. \
Watched a special on PBS about the Arizona. They sent an ROV down to the lower decks. Erie to see uniforms hanging on hangers, as they were left, after all these years. God Bless. |

Mom told me she saw the planes coming in, and heard the bombs exploding. After that, she had to carry her gas mask with her at all times.
This is a poignant story. Veteran finally lets himself remember Pearl Harbor | Honolulu Star-Advertiser

On base today, we saw what appeared to be a group of Japanese nationals (half of them in religious garb), surrounding a memorial site where a Japanese plane had crashed. It seems this is the year of reconciliation ..

My great uncle 93 years old passed away yesterday. He was a WWII vet, POW in Japan for 2 years until freed when we dropped the bomb. My wife's uncle was killed in WWII piloting a bomber in Europe. Shot down over a populated area he made everyone bail out and stayed with the plane to guide it away from the village. Not all bailed, a few stayed back to help maneuver the injured plane. To this day a small shrine stands on the outskirts of that village as a permanent thank you.
The whining flag burning kneeling liberals we have now need to visit that shrine and talk to those villagers or visit that POW camp.

It really really makes you wonder what the world would be like had the attack on Pearl never happened.

Interesting thing about Harris. His father was in the Navy and stationed in Japan after the Occupation. Harris' mother is Japanese. Kind of apropos for him to be speaking at the 75th.

Me too. It's impossible for me to fully understand the horror of what happened that day.

Sincere thanks to all who served, were there and / or responded or fought later. I had really hoped to be there for the 75th but no worries - I'll definitely be there for the 100th. Sadly I doubt there will be any survivors there by that point, most have already passed on.
We should make sure we never, ever forget this day and the lesson it provides. |

We lived in Hawaii for many years when I was a kid. My dad was an Air Force officer. He worked at PACAF and the building he we to work in every day was riddled with bullet holes. To be more accurate they were not holes in the concrete, just large "wounds" in the facade put there by Japanese war planes. They were very noticeable and will remain there I hope for all the current and future people working in that building.
We were in Hawaii when they filmed the movie Tora Tora Tora. We could sit on out front porch and watch the Zeros fly over and see the large explosions done for the movie. It was comforting to know the pilots on those Zeros were American and had no bullets or bombs. I could not imagine the terror of that day 75 years ago. In another 75 years we will look at that day like we look at the major Civil War battles. I stood on the field at the site of the both battles of Manassas, VA and it was a solemn place. I hope the future generations remember Pearl Harbor with the same respect shown at Manassas.
