Looks like ****.

There are pretty good looking VW bug rat rods that should have served as a model. Main issue as already mentioned is leaving the rear fenders stock and just slapping the wheels on completely outside of them. There also should be no front fenders IMHO.

Maybe too much wine there during the construction ...

Interesting comparison there, I just did an image search using "vw rat rod front engine", and I found to my liking the ones which kept more of the front hood on.

The ones I liked least were of the blunt firewall exposed type similar to the 964 hack job in the opening post.

I think part of the allure of a Hot Rod or Rat Rod is the promise of improved performance.

The 964 Rat Rod does not have this promise, it is merely a disfiguration lowering the performance envelope.

It's effin stupid.

The kink in the rear window roof line looks half assed.

Does not even look like it can turn.

To say it kindly, the proportions are wrong and the purpose of the end product is at odds with the original car. The air cooled 911, even the 964, is about understated elegance, how smaller can be faster. This re-imagination of a 964 hot rod is adventurous, which is to be applauded, but the result is an edgy, fashion-forward design in the way that a Pontiac Aztec was edgy and fashion-forward.

Not all bold designs stand the test of time. This was a worthy design exercise that was more valuable in proving what doesn't work.

OK, John Walker said in seven words what it took me a paragraph to say. But in all fairness, he also used a picture, which is worth a thousand words. So I should come our about 950 words ahead in making the point that this is not a good use of a 964.

Well, to be more direct, it was a bad idea. It doesn't look good. With all the work done on it it is less attractive than the original 964, which means that all of the expense put into it had negative utility.

Or, in less genteel terms: "Kill it with fire!". There, that was four words. I'm 996 words ahead

No accounting for taste... not mine either... but agreed - the rear fenders look goofy. Should have cut them away to the tops of the tires and brought the rear wheels inboard a few inches.

The Rat Bugs look cool - not so much with the porsche platform.

What's the sense?

It is no longer a Porsche. All of things that make a Porsche special have been butchered. Special handling? Gone. Classic air cooled car? Gone. Form follows function? Gone. Aerodynamic design? Gone.
Now it is just pieces of donor metal to another rat rod.

If you take a Michelangelo painting, spray paint it white and then draw on it. It is no longer a priceless Michelangelo. Just an old canvas with a crappy drawing on it.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have anything against rat rods. Some are very creative and kind of fun but that is an abortion.

I was taught to be honest when someone asks a question.

On the other hand, unsolicited opinions are rude.

Well, at least they fittingly painted it purple, which (in Aubergine) is the ugliest Porsche color ever to leave Stuttgart.

Does not work.
American push rod V-8's rat rods are paying homage to simpler times, power is made simply, and with size, cars are crude but functional, the joy is in the simpler times feeling and of youth and celebration of that with crude power and build.
The 911 is about from form follows function and refinement to the point of international success, taking a economy car and refining it to the point of world beating sports car. Power is made in a complicated way that is durable and race winning. Porsche 911 are arguably the final word in evolution engineering. Making a silk purse out of a sows ear.
This car is the worst of both worlds combined.
The ultimate fail, maybe that is what they were shooting for? if so it is a wining fail.

Since the title of the post is asking for thoughts or opinions I will add mine. Personally I think it is an abomination and a total waste of time and built only for shock value.

It is not my car, and I presume it was not taken from someone and they did a "Overhauling" on it and presented as the finished car. Since it is just a car, and not my car, I can't possible care less about it.

I went and found a front engine VW Beetle Rat Rod which served as a rough guide.

This is an attempt at a suggestion or so-called constructive criticism.

I know from other angles that the front headlights are really close together, so the front shape would be rather "V" shaped which this angle does not show all that well. Anyway, just a first step in an attempt to salvage this poor concept.

To rehash, it is a poor concept mostly because a Rat Rod like all Hot Rods before it make the promise of improved performance, if even in just a straight line.

Is this concept faster 0-60 than a 964? Maybe it is but maybe aerodynamic forces between 30 mph - 160 mph means the purple machine would lose 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile straight line sprints.

Even if it won the street light to street light 1/4 mile run, would it be safe enough to ever repeat? Finding someone stupid enough to try could be problematic.

Refinement.
