i finally saw some TINY houses.

Our retirement plan is a 8-900 sq ft shipping container house, all single story and easy access. We looked at the tiny houses but I don't like the loft sleeping arrangement and they don't look like they would tow well.

Basic awesome cont house is 4 cont in say a Sq then steel frame w glass pyramid roof over middle ...all weather indoor/outdoor living room or zen place or any sort of roof w alot of light ....if u want vaulted ceiling in other cont cut roof off of bottom cont n floor out of next layer of 4 cont ..then put long horizontal windows w remote open close per temp/hum settings ....helps w geothermal n lowers cost over time ....labor ..welding intensive
19p rods burn right through paint ...less grinding etc ..build climbing walls ..imagination vs budget ...Note ..convert to geothermal well n go solar to include well pumps ...

My parents have one exactly like that Airstream 30' TT (they bought 5 years old used one for $25,000). No doubt Airstream is probably better built, and has more travelability than most RVs, but are 3 times the price. I don't think a tall tiny house on a utilty trailer base will handle very well at all on the road. In most cases, it will cost as much for the "tiny lot" to put it on, as it cost to build it.

Unless, these tiny house travelers have a family owned pasture, or side yard where they could set up house, they will be stuck in seasonal campgrounds, and paying lot rent and utilities.

Another thing about the people on the tiny house TV shows....they are always renting/borrowing someone's truck to pull it down the road, with little towing experience......or else, they have to hire someone to move it for them ?!?

Maybe the land would appreciate. But unless you removed the wheels, axles and tongue, built a code-compliant foundation and permanently attached the house to it, the Tiny House is not real property and would depreciate just like a mobile home or RV.

Then like any home you need to add the cost of running in electric service, gas, septic system, and well. By that point, seems like one could find a decent used 1400 sq ft stick built house ready to move into.

Also, I think one of the major problems with Tiny Houses is finding somewhere to put them, whether the wheels & axles are left on or not. Most zoning ordinances have minimum square foot requirements for homes and restrictions on living in an RV or mobile tiny home.

What I want to see, is the re-sale on these after they have outgrown living in their trendy little closet space, and want to move in to a more live able sized home .

I simply do not understand the tiny house phenomenon. It is as alien as facial tattoos or genital piercings to me.

I see people post photos of a bucolic cabin in the woods and wish they could live there. I have zero issues with anyone that wants that, but it is not for me. I have been in a cabin in the woods for a weekend. It had no garage at all. it was drafty, and if we wanted to go out to eat, it was a 30 minute drive. I for sure do not want to live in the middle of a big city downtown either.

I lived in a 900 square foot house as a bachelor. That is as tiny as I could manage, but I will need a oversize 3 car garage attached to that little hose.

You can pickup a used 30 foot Airstream in need of work for under $10K. Even if you paid someone else $30K to do the work, you would have a fantastic place for under $50K.

I know someone on the board is re-doing an Air Stream, but himself.

I've watched the Tiny House show on the Home and Garden Channel. Personally, I think it's one of those "There's a sucker born every minute" deals that will prove a passing trend. You still have to buy or rent a lot, hook up to utilities, etc. etc.

As others have said...An $87K budget on a used RV does the same thing, but WAY more comfortable and convenient. If you don't ever plan to move it, for a few grand more a double-wide mobile home can give you 1,200 sq ft of luxury by comparison.

I drive past 3 RV parks on my way to one of the local shooting ranges. Full hookups, cable TV, and high speed internet (ethernet at each site for 1, wireless for the other 2) for $12-18 dollars per night.

Wanna buy some land to put one on? 5 acres in the next county over is about $10k. Figure another $10-15k to put a utility pole in and a decent pole barn next to it to park under (why have your house in full sun/heat when you can put it in full shade?). Wanna sell it? Slap a $40k double wide on it and you'll get $95-100k out of it...

I can see where it can all be economical. If it were just myself, I could see paring down the necessities to live in a tiny or a 30' tow behind trailer. I just don't want to.

Of course, for $75k you can put a 6 bedroom 3 bath 3k sq ft. monster of a mobile home on it ...

This 25' airstream safari is on my local craigslist for $2K. That leaves an $85,000.00 remodeling budget.

To be honest, My house is 7 a 6 meter row house. with second floor under the roof.
It's still to big for what I need. I could probably loose half the floor space on the first floor and not mind.
bigger = more cleaning and more crap accumulation.

Also big houses attract womens, and womens then make you need a bigger house and a den and what not. End of freedom.
Not having any of that crap.

What I need is a big garage.. Which I have, seperate from the house I back of the garden with own drive way I have a 5x10 meter garage..
I can do stuff in there, work on my car, park another car next to it, reload ammo, drink beer, fart
