20 years of marriage

In a few minutes, I will have been married for 20 years.

We knew each other for 4 months when we got married. I'm a whiskey drinking, deer hunting heathen from Michigan. She is a teetotaling, vegetarian, Hindu from a village in northern India.

We have thrived together. I feel very blessed.

It is my view that relationships continually prod us to do more personal growth. Love brings up things within us - like our insecurities - to focus us on the tasks of inner growth, skillbuilding, healing, wholeness, and so forth. When a couple is able to see and name challenges in a way that recognizes that challenges are a natural and good part of relating, then the "threat" of challenges diminishes, and both partners develop solid trust that they can face and overcome obstacles together.
The path to true intimacy is paved with conflict...damn hard to work on our conflict resolution skills when we live alone.

Congratulations to you and your wife, and may you both live a long, healthy, happy married life together. This year is the twentieth for me and my wife too, and we're pretty different. Though this year is our twentieth, we've known each other for over thirty two. She was just thirty and I was fifty five when we got married. I was very hesitant for a long time, but I can't imagine myself with any one else or how any other woman could be a better wife.

My wife and I have been married 18 years today. We met in the elevator of our high rise condo building; two floors apart. Friends at first, then dated briefly, then engaged and married all within about 1 year.
