Well that's a relief. I thought they were going to re-badge them as "Aston Martin" after re-bading the Renaults as TAG. Thank goodness for authenticity of these motors which have fake exhaust noise and push to pass.

sammyg2 09-25-2017 11:19 AM

I need a favor please. I would like someone to post a video of a formula one race start, where the car in the lead DOES NOT close the door at turn 1.
Thanks in advance.

Extra points if they can find one that shows Schumacher or hambone diving into the first corner without putting the squeeze on a car trying to pass.

LOL it's a trick, there isn't one.
Hambone even does it to his own team mate.

Not as many real F1 experts as it seems.

matthewb0051 09-25-2017 11:58 AM

I was genuinely surprised to find a couple in this video.

Felipe always had a lot of class, didn't he?

Push to pass is Indycar (driver controlled with the same amount for all drivers). Don't forget the DRS F1 abomination.

He kinda did for like 15 seconds ;-) Ever more class there (and I'm not even a fan of his). I still think Glock was paid ;-)

He did give that position up quite easily didn't he?...

BTW, saw Glock on DTM this past weekend. Didn't know he was still kicking around. Just figured he was off on some island with his payoff ;)

I spose Mr. Lauda isn't much of an expert either...

Looks like we've probably seen the last of Kvyat. I always hoped he would have
some success but it didn't pan out for him. Too bad. More like Maldonado
than WDC material and trying too hard. IMO

Don't know much about this new guy Gasly. Maybe another fast Frenchman, like Ocon and Prost et al.

matthewb0051 09-27-2017 05:57 AM

Yep, Kvyat is likely gone for good. With the Japanese driver that is also a Honda driver in the wings for next year.

Should make for interesting commentary during the race this weekend, more likely during practice.

Can't say we all did not see this coming.

Pierre Gasly to make Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso in Malaysia - BBC Sport

Deschodt 09-27-2017 06:13 AM

Gasly is quick, but the really interesting one is Charles Leclerc, who won EVERYTHING this year and is a Ferrari junior driver. I hope he gets in at Sauber, now that they have a new team manager and a clearer plan, and more $. Could be interesting, he could be the future of Ferrari (and a cleaner driver than Vettel)...

Renault has also been making tons of investments in their factories both for the car (UK) and in Viry (France) for the engine and hired more people at both locations. At some point they are bound to come good... I read an interesting article from Prost (consultant there) about how difficult it was to implement and integrate this new small engine/turbo/KERS and how they were not surprised Honda had so many issues because it took them time as well, and Mercedes had clearly started over a year earlier than all of them, and with the development freeze until last year catching up was a biatch ! They are feeling rather confident for next year in terms of closing the gap to Mercedes now, at least enough so that a better chassis could get them in contention at Mac Laren and at renault the year after.

Also it looks like DiResta at Williams. The Stroll family is scared of Kubica - if a one armed guy beats their son it will look terrible for young Lance. They pay for the extra testing for Lance, so they blocked the use of the test car that Williams wanted to use to give Robert a proper test (which is their right since they pay for their kid but a cheap shot), so that leave Williams in the twilight zone regarding Kubica's abilities, and makes it risky, so.... DiResta.. a guy who barely matched Hulkenberg at Force india but presents no threat... I don't quite get this, they surely need a push, and even if Kubica fails, the marketing potential is nothing to sneeze at - would be a big story !

2003 Australia: Schumi starts from P1. FF to about 4:00

Makes me miss the V12 and the chest thumping noise. My first GP to attend was Hockenheim 2002. The start finish straight is kind of like a bowl with an embankment on one side and grandstand built on the other side of the bank. I walked up the bank and crested the top of the stands. The noise and smell was off the charts.

God gave him an OK mind but a really good azz for sorting out a car:

I figured all of us "car guys" can sit in a passenger seat and start diagnosing mechanical issues. I know I do it. I've diagnosed alignment issues, tire issues, and some simple engine issues as a passenger.

Every vehicle I've ever driven I can feel the tire pressure in ride and steering. I've even gotten to the point that I prefer certain shoes for driving because I can feel the clutch bite point better.

Yes, sorry I used the wrong phrase.

I believe it was Vettle that described DRS this year as making the driver a 'sitting duck' with little that could be done to defend a position. Seems fairly accurate. However, what I don't get is how the passed driver can't stay in contact then use DRS on the next lap to re-take the position.

My point is similar to Vettle in that I'm saying it is artificial and manufactured for show only.

Based on todays qualifying results tomorrow's Malaysian race should be a good one.

I think it airs live at 0300 ET Sunday, but rebroadcast at 0800 ET

URY914 09-30-2017 11:43 AM

Hammy better lookout at the first corner....
