wtf is up with people not standing IN LINE

Major pet peeve of mine. walk up to counter at a food or retail store and people are scattered all around. leaving gaps of 10' between them and the people in front of them. guy this morning started to get ugly with me when I walked up to the counter and waited for cashier so I could order. she shows up and as I start to order I hear the guy who was 7' away from the counter and standing closer to a register that was closed when I walked up interrupt with 'I was here first' and gives his order. in the past I might've apologized and thought 'so get in line properly then'. not this time. i'm done with that crap. spoke up loud and clear and said 'you weren't in line so I couldn't tell you were next'. he mumbles something about no one was at the counter and besides he was in the general area. right, so were 6 other people that had already ordered.

you don't see this crap in grocery stores. listen people, if someone has to ask if you're in line and you ARE then you need to get your **** together and GET IN LINE!

I was at the Safeway with the missus yesterday. As we were standing in line a woman comes up and acts like she was with the woman in front of us. Nope, she was just collecting the 12 pack she had left at the entrance of the check out line. Luckily for all involved she said that she would just pick up her beer and get behind me. Well, no Schit, did you think I was going to let a 12 pack hold your place in line???

My other peeve is people trying to cut for a "quick question". I about took an old man off at the knees a few years ago when he pulled that crap. Told him that the line formed to the rear and that I had been waiting longer than him and that my question was just as quick, which it was.

When did things get this way?

A quick trick that sometimes works perfect...

I was getting groceries on pay day and it was elbow to elbow, normally my wife is the shopper so I'd not suffered that fate in recent memory. Anyway not even remotely enough cashiers...long long, lines. Some dude behind me notices I only have half a cart full and says just slip around to the front desk where they sell all the lottery tickets, smokes, and movies. No line...I was gone in three minutes. In a situation were all the lines were backed into the isles...I felt like a jerk looking back at all the folk's..I did give the guy a thumbs up, and mouthed Thank You.

I must not get to town enough, I'd never even thought of that before. Apparently nobody else did either that day.-WW

Yup - for just a couple of things the service desk at Publix. But then, they are good about always having enough folks on registers.

Only way I can stand to pay money at Walmart is to go to the Sporting Goods counter and check out there. No lines... and 90% of the time I'm buying ammo anyway, so I have to check out there....

(the other 10% I want to buy ammo but Wally is out of the calibers I shoot)

If people not queuing up properly bothers you, I have some advice: Don't go to India.

Like most people I go to a grocery store that close to my house. I don't do Wal-Mart. I am afraid someone will take my picture and post it on the Walmartian site.

There is a Target that would be a good place to get groceries but they never ever have enough check out lanes open. They have two self service lanes that always has 12 people in the line. After several times of going I gave up on them and go to a store just a little further away that always has enough checkout lanes open.

I dunno. A local pizza/sub shop is usually too busy with a too small waiting area. If you stand in line you block the door. I stand off to the side trying to keep the door free. Once in a while that mean someone gets in front of me. Usually everyone figures it out and we all try to stay in order.

Here in Africa it is perfectly acceptable practice (for others) to come up to a line, step into it at some random place, and state that you were in that position earlier, but had another errand to run. Throbbing vein in the forehead stuff for me...

When you are younger it is okay to challenge but obviously risk an altercation. Now I am older I pick and choose my battles as it puts the blood pressure up. Simply not worth it.

i get bothered by the opposite more.

the guys that take Line standing to an art form. they place the credit card machine thing is at the end of the counters around here. so you have to move way up there to do the paying.

i cant stand the guys that immediately grab one of those grocery partition things and pushes it up against my cilantro..and start loading the conveyor belt. there's time. there is always time. i usually get the raised eyebrow if i dont put the divider thing down myself...how indignant of me!.

by the time he is done unloading, he is violating my personal space and standing there right next to me and my credit card. last time, i offered the guy my credit card and asked him if he wanted to do the honors.. back the eff off and let me tap in my numbers in peace!!

the loosy goosy thing with the line is okay by me as long as you are not creating a log jam with pedestrian traffic.

There's a pretty big Chinese population in Vancouver. One thing Chinese are brutal for is cutting in line (to the point where Disney had to specially design the queuing areas in their Chinese theme parks). The worst offenders are little old ladies that just elbow their way in front of you at the grocery store, and don't even look back.

One of the grocery stores I used to frequent was over close to my old house. I was a well know regular. It was a family owned store and not some chain. I almost always had just a few items and went to the express 10 items or less line. One day I walked towards the line some dude came rushing up with a cart full of groceries and got in line before me with my 6 items. The clerk looked in his cart and asked which of the 10 items he was going to want. The dude just started putting his crap back in the cart and changed to a regular line. I loved it.

so true. If they only wait 10 seconds there will be room. Why move stuff all over the belt to make room. It does that for you if just.... wait a second. Funny.

Autozone and Advanced are the worst. It is so random with their lay-out, you never know which register to step up to--sometimes there are people just mulling around, this could easily be solved by having a short roped area like at a bank--next open register, step up. Going on a Saturday really tests my patience.

Walk up and ask loud enough for everyone around the counter to hear "Where's the end of the line?"

Its also hard to figure out which line to get in at Autozone and Advanced because the conversations at the desk are usually in Spanish and mine isn't good enough to figure out who is going to be done quickly and who is trying to rebuild the QEII.

I think most clerks should be waiting for customers
NOT most customers waiting for clerks
why wait in line to spend money ?
I have left a store without a purchase
if the lines are too long
