Ditto the RV cam. You want a flat torque curve for a 4X4, not high rpm horsepower.

Stick with a stock rebuild, performed by a reputable a machine shop, not a re-builder. New push rods, keep the OEM rockers, replace with OEM. Quality timing chain, Cloyes Double Roller. Std press and volume oil pump. Bearing clearance determines oil pressure. Use the oil viscosity and brand that the machine shop recommends.

Use the 1 qt. GM filter. Never use a Fram!!!

I acutally average on the highway about 18MPG in my 89 Silverado, but it's lowered and has shorter wheels than stock.

When my motor croaked, it was due to flashes of overheating, and drinking water. Fill, bleed repeat over and over hoping it was just air- nope, blown HG. Mine had 272K on it at the time.

I was hoping that I could get away with rebuilt heads and new HG but when I pulled them the bores were visibly worn and worse, signs of rusting.

No mistaking those bores at that mileage as "in spec", that wasn't happening. all on the bank I pulled were sloppy. Would've taken .030 to clean them, easy.

Since it's a K1500 4x4 with 285s(33"), my mileage has always fluctuated between crappy and $hitty, lol. My last spark plug swap I did notice some funky looking goobers on my #1 plug which very well could be coolant. Made me say WTH?!?!

Are you using oil ? Is your oil pressure OK ? Have you done a compression test ?

sure looks like water and oil mixing up and solidifying, that's funky all right.

I'd do a GM crate. It will probably last the longest (maybe another 300k like the stock block). A rebuild from someplace else will probably not last remotely that long.

Not really using any absurd amount. About a quart between oil changes. Temps and oil pressure right where they normally sit. I watch the gauges like a hawk. I haven't gotten around to a Comp check yet. But need to

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking but any coolant loss is barley/if any is even noticeable. I added a couple of ounces to the overflow tank two months ago. Radiator is sitting full.

Who knows, I'm probably operating on a wing and a prayer and when it decides to let go...... it will be spectacular!

That's what I'm vectoring towards. Hopefully I might have a line on one from a dealer.
