Yes I remember that night. It was about wasted on me back then. Thank you though. It was am early spark that started a fire for me.

I have about 1 shot left in my latest bottle. It is one of my favorite Scotch's.

Thanks to Photobucket screwing its users over, I have stumbled upon many a picture of old that struck a chord.

Serendipitous you mention that evening many years ago, I found that moment.

You and Fastpat enjoying a taste, and some other old time members here, what jumped out was Bert Beagle in the background. I lost touch with him, he sent me a box of Mazdaspeed keepsakes, that I still have.

I hope to fix all my broken photos best I can over the next week. Photobucket really did a job on a lot of people.

*edit* Wish I could read the label on the bottle. See if I could track one down, maybe a hint? Will it stack up to Bushmills 21 yo?

Jim - That was a Glenfiddich 21 year old Havana Reserve. It was only available for a short time around 2002. In what could be described as a huge marketing failure, Glenfiddich soon figured out that it couldn't be sold in the USA due to the use of Cuban rum casks to finish the whisky. Consequently, they changed their finishing casks to Caribbean rum casks and produced the Glenfiddich 21 year old Gran Reserva.

The Gran Reserva is available for around $170, but if you want the genuine Havana Reserve it's a little pricey - about $400 a bottle IF you can actually find one;

Buy Glenfiddich Havana Reserve 21 Year Old Online | HTFW

I still have a bottle stashed away though . . . ;-)

The distillers of (the excellent) Buffalo Trace also do (the more excellent) Eagle Rare and (the splendiforous) Blanton's and (the mythical) Pappy Van Winkle.

This was a bittersweet moment... the cool part is the last of the bottle was shared with my older son at a July 4th picnic.

Delivery day Monday, box was emptied and reloaded with Bottles purchased locally heading to a fellow Pelican who was kind enough to donate to Chive Charities in exchange for some booze.

I already know what the powers and Quiet man are like, both good, I am interested to see how the 16 y/o compares to the 21.

I also received the taste of the ever elusive Pappy's. I get to see what the big deal is. I have some more Bushmills 21 on its way I may wait until it arrives and do a side by side comparison.

From a recent tour of the Buffalo Trace distillery. A very old school facility designated as a National Historic Landmark. The oldest continually operating distillery in the US (over 200 years):

And a bottle of their Blanton's - "the original single barrel bourbon".

This is the stuff I'd really like to try from B.T. Straight out of the barrel, uncut, and unfiltered. Probably not going to Add To Cart anytime soon though

Buddy of mine purchased a bottle of Blantons for me as a gift, I enjoyed it greatly.

I have also had Eagle Rare it is very good as well.

When I toured the Buchmills distillery, sadly no cameras inside. A fantastic educational tour nonetheless.

Well, in that case .... To be honest, my 2 favorites are just the run of the mill Buffalo Trace and Elijah Craig.

Elijah Craig is one of the best out there. I think its a little crazy that the Stagg is so expensive. So many good bourbons under $50.

Yeah, I first tried Elijah Craig about a year ago. Had heard of it of course, but didn't think it was worth trying. Wrong. It may now be my go-to bourbon.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is really good stuff if you see it at retail pricing.

Forget stagg Sr. There is no point to waste money in the BTAC's. I'll gladly drink my weller 12. Which sadly is now almost impossible to find.

I think I own just about enough square footage of Laphroaig's property (1 sq. ft/bottle) to pitch my tent! Hmmm....

If that's the case, I'll have room to park a caravan.

(Opps, I read Lagavulin and not Laphroig.) Would be nice if they had a similar program.

Picked up a couple special ones tonight. I found a liquor store in San Fran that has about 10 different store picks and two of them were my favorite Heaven Hill products. Never had a store pick before and really looking forward to getting these home.
