Question about Clear bra or cheapo alternative:

I may be riding a MC I bought 1000 miles through summer bugs and random flying gravel to get it home. I want to protect the paint on fairing but do not want clear bra permanently or semi-permanently installed, just for a few days.

Is there any similar adhesive film that would be thick enough to work as protection but fairly easy to remove w/o leaving a lot of adhesive behind? The answer to this could be great for any road trip or track day w any nice vehicle. I've seen people cover the whole front of a 911 w 3M blue tape but that ain't gonna really stop a sharp piece of gravel.

I would consider 3M Vinyl tape. 2" wide. 471 or 764, available 2" wide, easy removal.

I'm not a motorcycle guy, I assume there's no conventional bra type products for a bike?

One of my friends drives his 1985 911 to Porsche Parade down from Anchorage Alaska. He just covers the front of the car with blue 3M masking tape. It is designed to come off cleanly with no residue. It last for several thousand mile road trips through rain and sleet no problem. He peels it of at Parade, washes his car and it looks fine. Tape it up and head for home a week later.

Thanks. Tape is certainly an option but it would take some time and that stuff is not cheap. Blue tape in wide size is $12-15 a roll. I was thinking some plastic sheet w adhesive where maybe on roll could cover more than one application.

My friend has a GT3 that is covered in Clearbra back to the doors. Amazing stuff but not cheap and I don't think it wants to come off.

You will do best to get a product like Track Wrap from XPEL. You should install several layers over each other to gain more protection.

Clear bra PPF is around 8 to 9 mils thick. This gives enough protection to stop damage from most small debris penetration.

The Track Wrap, 3M blue masking tape, and vinyl graphics type films run around 2 mils in thickness. Not enough to protect from penetration. They will help with bug guts though.

Thanks, Cooper! Clear bra is an amazing product and I may consider having it done as a permanent thing but I need a quick solution that I can do in a Lowes parking lot for now.

Do you know where I can buy that other stuff retail?

Ok, I googled it and tracwrap is actually 8 mil thick and only available on their site. Fairly expensive but looks like a great product.

The other "poor mans" route is to go to target, Walmart etc and pick up a roll of opaque shelf and drawer liner.

This is adhesive backed with a low tack adhesive. Many auto cross guys use this rather than the blue tape. Goes on faster and isn't blue...

Should definitely layer though.

just use ebay 3M bra. When you pull it, sit in the sun, and don't pull away from the adhesive- act like you're straightening a bedsheet- pull it towards you. It pulls off clean.

Painter's tape is better than nothing but won't really stop a piece of gravel hitting @ 70 mph. I'm liking the drawer liner idea.

Denis, here's what we use to protect our newly installed thresholds on all of construction projects and it has worked out really well and simple to install.

We use the painter's blue tape as a base layer, a couple layers of duct tape on top of that. This way the easy release blue tape wouldn't leave you a mess to clean up and the duct tape is tough stuff. In your situation, you may apply 3-4 layers to fend off the gravels. Over the years, its has kept our wood threshold spotless from my men's dirty construction boots and all kinds of dirty and rough stuff.
