KS911...I love the GM V-8's, they're American Classics...and I love the 911...loved it as a kid and still do...but my love for the 911 wasn't under the hood, it was all around it...it's the style...I would love to drive that car, not only is it a Porsche, it's a baaaddd Porsche...wow has this thread gone on and on...gotta love it though... :)

Love it so far...... feels like a GTO but can handle....Except that I have now thrown my water pump belt twice (v-belt). I will have to go to a serpentine or electric pump to handle the 7k+ shifts. Ks911, which electric pump did you go with? the other thing I would recommend is go with the 930 box because the 915 might break but you with have to shift too much. Unless you change the G50 gearing you will be shifting too much there too,but you will not break it. the 930 box clutch will have to be upgraded to handle a nitrous hit. Kennedy Eng can set you up with that.

this is the last board that I know of for anyone interested. the other 2 were shut down or closed. also there are few suppliers for this stuff. so shop wisely.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pors-chev/ good luck |
Franco, Mine was mostly Renagade with the 915 from the original set-up (80SC), Rod Simpson went whacki on me thinking I was a Renagade Spy! Man I was pissed. Wouldnt sell me individual items and sent wrong items. Anyway, Im very happy and now looking for a twin turbo setup by Banks or other. Looks like it'll fit nicely. BTW where does your heat from the radiator vent? Would love to see other photos. Im working on a nice long video. I cant get enough!

just curious, but has anyone done a 928 engine in the 911?
|
I only had time to read the first three pages, then skipped to the last couple of pages (I'll try to read the others when I have more time).
Nice conversion, nice work. The original poster has a Porsche shop and has built flat 6s... no problem. I've always liked the sound of an air cooled 6 (no Corvairs, though...), but wouldn't mind a conversion (especially in a 914-4). Still a Porsche, but Porschev sounds ok, too. FWIW, alot/most of the 32 Fords had their flatheads yanked for an OHV Caddy/Olds/hemi/SBC/BBC and they are still called 32s or deuces or hot rods/street rods.... If they ran a nailhead (Buick) in a Ford, they called them Bufords. No big deal. If only this was the most important problem in the world, huh? |

Now THAT(928v8-911) would be the ultimate mack daddy. 928 punched to about 400 HP, EFI. Havent heard of anyone yet, but now youve got me thinking. Such problems we create! I'm thinking it would be to long to fit as nicely as the SBC. WHos got a measure ready?

i had a 928 s4. the efi was a night mare. car ended up catching fire because of the bad efi. and iam not the only one.
|
So I really need some advise on the twin turbo set-up. Can I safely add mild boost to my already 10.25 to 1 compression?
John |
turbo is very expensive.... you can get a naturally asparited 500- 600 small blocks.
|
I already have about 345 in the 327 now. I just want it mostly for sex appeal and resale increase. I found a set of headers for $250 the fit T4's but know nothing about setting up the boost/waste and carburation.

find an old martin turbo set up and you should be fine.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/turbofit1.jpg

Speaking of routing the cooling system. THAT was the worst. But with so many configurations out there, it can be done relatively quick. If you get the sick desire to pull it off, email me. I didnt cut the original tank(as most require) and run at 180-200 all day with 10.1 comp. Im just jealous of the EFI. Ive been putting it off forever. Im sick og my carb!
Good luck! |
I expect to see alot more mods, like this one, as the prices of the older 911's continue to decline.
This reminds me of many of the posts you will find on the 951 board. Why? 951 are cheap initial investments, and a great platform for creativity. Older(non-concourse) 911's are beginning to reach the inexpensive initial investment stage. What a great platform to begin with! What was that old Porsche quote... something like 'I couldn't find the car I wanted so I built it'. This mod is not for me, but I enjoy(applaud) creativity and new approaches taken. |
Can you post some photos of the cooling system with the radiator line routing?
|
I have no pictures of the routing but my lines routed from the passenger side towards the center of the car, through 2 inch holes drilled in the rack and pinion then routed along the indentations of the floor pan. I'll try to take some pics.

I hadn't seen this thread for a year.....
