ks911.

The world would be a boring place without people like you.
If I EVER end up in a 911 I would never want to do it to my car but ..... you gotta push the boundaries !

Well one of those should be good for 400+ hp so there is no need to get too extravagant. Low weight is the key.

Don't be fooled with extra space, there are more things to be stuffed around...intercooler, cooler, intake, separate 930 wastegate etc.

Glad to see this thread is still alive.
FWIW, the yellow 911 V8 seen at the beginning of the thread is about to come back from the dark side. Keith is installing a highly modified 911 motor into his 911 so that he can go PCA racing (GT3) .

Personally, I am very glad to see this. On the track, I could not pass him with the 3.2 914-6 vs his 500HP+ V8 911.

Well we took what we had available. I guess turbocharged Dodge engine is as easy to get in US as SAAB's one in Sweden. Junkyards are littered with them. It's pretty good base to build on...cast iron block, alu heads, DOHC 16 valve and very good tuning base.

New GM alloy slant four has same bolt pattern as SAAB-engines as far as i know, so there are interesting possibilities opening up. Unfortunately, it's not so over-engineered as SAAB one, so you start changing internals at much lower HP-numbers than SAAB one (which is good for 400HP without opening it or 500 with better cams, provided there is fuel and air to feed it).

Anyway, it's always fun pissing off purists ;-)

that new GM vortec inline 6 out of the box is 275hp/275lbs...if I ever get a project 911 with a blown or missing engine, I may look into that one...VERY light, plus the mods are cheap...

then I'll have the best 911 (911SC) and a bastard 911

People...people...There is a cure for this disease. And as a public service...actually, as a public HEALTH service, I have researched the possibility of developing an air cooled flat eight. Yes, a big displacement motor with gobs of torque, low center of gravity, Porsche parts, and the approval and admiration of the entire Porsche community - purists and all. Here is an original example from Porsche...

I emailed a guy named Jake Raby...an awesome flat four tuner who has proven he can build 200+ hp flat fours that won't blow up. And his reply was...

"I have contemplated a flat eight VW engine, but the 911 would be even easier due to its design. I would be more than interested in the project.
Jake Raby"

If you haven't seen his website, you must check it out. It is...

http://www.aircooledtechnology.com

If you check out his huge flat four motors (including one up to 2.7 liters !!) you can imagine how a 200hp flat four in the back of a 911SC would provide more hp and less weight = more performance than stock !! I blew $7000 on a rebuilt 3.0 carrera motor for my SC and I probably would have done much better to buy one of Jake Raby's motors instead. But I digress.

So for the love of humanity, let's encourage these V8 and (gulp) I4 miscreants to come back to the fold and use their powers for good. Friends, friends, Jake Raby can help you. Take the $$ you would spend on that awful piece of iron and have Jake develop a true porsche-approved flat eight for you. And then send him my address so I can have one for myself.

That's pretty cool Janus. Flat 8 with MFI. The injection pump is probably from a 8 cyl. diesel mercedes.

His name rings a bell. I'm sure someone here knows him.

Jake Raby rocks. He built the motor in my recently sold Vintage 550 Spyder. He is located in Cleveland, GA. If Jake says he can do it, then I would believe him.

Ah, did I post the wrong pic? I thought it was a pic of a 908 motor. But I'm no expert. So here is a pic of the porsche flat eight at Gunnar Racing...

Now all of you transplanters gaze upon the picture and repeat after me: "Flat" motor ist gut. "Aircooled" motor ist gut. V motor ist schlecht."
