Chase Suspect Arrested For Driving 208 MPH On Kilpatrick Turnpike

CANADIAN COUNTY, Oklahoma - Authorities arrested a man accused of leading an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper on a pursuit, and at one point, driving over 200 miles per hour on the Kilpatrick Turnpike.
According to the OHP, in the morning of Saturday, November 12, 2016, a trooper was on the Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City when he noticed a Mustang going about 85 mph in the 70 mph zone. He tried to stop the car but it took off. That’s when the chase began.

Troopers said the driver, later identified as 19-year-old Hector Fraire, accelerated and clocked the speed at 176 mph.

At one point, he was driving at 208 mph. He also turned off the headlights and brake lights in an attempt to elude the trooper.

A Canadian County Sheriff’s deputy then spotted a car matching the suspect vehicle description near Sara Road and Northwest Expressway. The trooper caught up to the Mustang at a red light at Northwest Expressway and Highway 3. Fraire then turned south, pulled over and dropped his keys out of the driver’s window.

Fraire was arrested on multiple complaints, including reckless driving and a felony count of eluding.

Troopers said he is a member of a local racing group.

Yea, that was a big story one year ago when it happened. Even a few TV announcers looked confused when they said 208. The driver has a great souvenir a ticket for 208. It would be interesting now that it is a year later to find out what fines he paid.

Now imagine some sort of late model mustang that's been hopped up with twin turbos or a big blower and 800-1000 hp. I suspect a modern-ish car with a crap load of HP could top 200. All it takes is power.

But this time Ford has dumped hi-test on the terminal-velocity discussion by claiming a 200-mph top speed for the 2013 GT500. In fact, 202 mph, supposedly observed on a test run at the circular, 7.8-mile Nardo Ring in southern Italy.

If so, the new GT500 would be the first factory Mustang to break into the 200-mph club. It also would represent a significant trickling down of speed capability. Suddenly, a $55,000 Mustang might take the working classes to where only plutocrats in their gilded, titanium-trussed exotics once ventured (some never to return).

The Shelby’s specs indicate that 200 was not an anomaly but a hunted target. For 2013, the standard rear-end ratio drops from 3.55 (3.73 with optional Performance pack) to 3.31, making the engine lug in top gear at any speed below 80 mph. But the ratio change—no doubt also to improve everyday fuel economy—puts the 200 mark in fifth gear, the one Ford says it used, at about 6400 rpm, or just below the engine’s power peak.

After hitting the rev limiter at "only" 195 mph in a black supercharged 2015 Mustang GT with 717 horses, the folks at Hennessey Performance had one singular goal in mind:

The 200 mph barrier.

Clearly, the 717 hp provided by the tuner's HPE700 kit wasn't enough—never mind that the limitation seemed to be gearing, not power. Enter the HPE750 Supercharged Mustang, kicking out a claimed 774 horses and 648 lb-ft of torque.

Hennessey says this beastliest of tuned Mustangs will do 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, on its way to a quarter mile in 10.9 at 133 mph. All that extra motivation comes from a 2.9-liter supercharger; upgraded intake, fuel system, and computer tuning; and, of course, all the Hennessey and HPE750 badging you'll need to set yourself apart from your neighbor's stock GT. The HPE750 runs the same 3.15 differential gear as the example that maxed out at 195 mph, but bumping the redline up by 500 (to 7700 rpm) helped the pony pass the 200-mph barrier, John Hennessey explained to R&T in an email.

What does that add up to? Well, when Hennessey put Brian Smith behind the wheel at the 8.5-mile high speed oval at the Continental Tire Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas, he screamed down the back straight to a GPS-verified top speed of 207.9 mph. Jay Leno was there, too, filming an episode of Jay Leno's Garage that you'll be able to see on CNBC sometime later this year.
