Just what the thermometer reads. I'm going to be honest, -10 is more than uncomfortable, it is threatening. But I really do enjoy all the seasons, and high temperatures and bugs will do more to keep me indoors than winter (which isn't 2 weeks old yet). I like being outside in an environment where I might be the only person outside in a mile radius from where I am standing.

-7º is the real temperature. -28º is the wind chill.

You don't want any exposed skin in this kind of weather.

To put the garbage out, I put on my Carhart coveralls (over jeans and a t-shirt), winter boots, heavy gloves, a scarf, ear muffs, a neoprene face mask, a balaclava, ski goggles, and a hat over that.

We're not going anywhere. The kids are staying in, and I usually let the older ones play in the snow. I have a two-month old and even taking her from the car into a store is a concern.

The population density of your county is literally 100 times higher than mine. I don't care if it was -30 outside here, I wouldn't trade places. But hey, that's why they make chocolate and vanilla. Maybe the best part of cold temperature, is that it bothers many people enough that it keeps them away.

It is play-time at last.
With the extended deep freeze we should have plenty of ice to safely roll plow trucks to clear a track and pit (park ) on the lake.

New Zealanders build island in bid to avoid alcohol ban - BBC News

Haha, one of those beach towns to the north of me (much nicer than where I live). The funny thing is the police confiscated a guys bottle of alcohol in a booze ban area and tipped it out. It turned out the guy was a big shot lawyer and proved the police had no right to do that and sued them for hurt and humiliation etc. Ha, summer in NZ - never a dull moment.

Ha!

Man that’s T-shirt weather, it was -22 a couple days ago here, and we got a foot of snow. I think this also made up my mind a Cayenne would be better off than the Panamera, but neither has remote start so...

Montpelier or thereabouts? That is High Peaks ADK cold! Although I did spend a night nearby, in Franconia Notch that was absurdly cold.

JackDidley 01-01-2018 06:46 PM

7* F here now. Near 0* overnight. Its winter and its supposed to be cold so I will just deal with it and try not to whine.:D

Noah930 01-01-2018 07:18 PM

Took the 911 out for a romp through the canyons today. Glorious twisties, no traffic, no cops. My only weather dilemma was whether I should wear a sweatshirt or just go with a t-shirt.

Mark Henry 01-01-2018 07:41 PM

I love winter but I admit it's too damn cold, usual temp this time of year is around 0*C (32*F).
Then I have a fully heated shop so cold temps don't matter much to me.

speeder 01-01-2018 08:08 PM

Don't worry, there is only 3-4 months of winter left! :)

I swear, I'd shoot myself if I was still in MN. As I get older, freezing becomes less tolerable. And it didn't start out very tolerable.

Happy new year Jim. I went out for a bike ride in shorts and tee shirts with the family at the beach today and had lunch on the Strand. Slightly over cast sky, and thought about my cousins in Calgary and Edmonton.

cstreit 01-01-2018 09:12 PM

WHO is holding the Canadians responsible for this?!

It's war by weather I tell you. THey are trying to bankrupt the american consumer and energy system by sending down their cold air.

BUILD THE CANADIAN WALL!

look 171 01-01-2018 09:14 PM

I can deal with the cold, but that blowing wind kicks my ass and I am not just talking about wind during the winter months. Out here, we rarely get the blowing winds like other pats of the country or N America. When we were up in Calgary, that winds just comes across and rips my face in pieces and continues to blow. We just don't have that here, oh, and no bugs in the summer but a couple of flies and such unless you are up in the mts.

-11.2* F for the first day back to work...

Thank God for remote starter.
