Good for you, Hugh!
Some people have trouble with retirement for various reasons. The consulting gig has been a life-saver for lots of people. |

Congrats....It sounds like you will have all the benefits of being retired without HAVING to be at the office every day. To be able to pick and choose your assignments will be a good way to slowly back away from working life, and enjoy relaxation much more.

Congrats, enjoy.
When I retried after 30 years and being an officer of the company it was like being fired. One day I was working and the next day I was gone. ![]() You are very fortunate to work for a good company and obviously have made a major contribution over many years!

Congratulations! You're going to love it Hugh...and after the "postpartum depression" ("my wife's expression for my behavior after retirement), you'll wish you did it sooner.
The side gigs will help ease you into it. I stayed busy with charity work until I found a rhythm. Now a year in, I'm surprised how busy I am.

Congrats! Yeah consulting gig, 20 hours a week, or something, keeps you a bit busy and ease your way into having all that free time. Although I did hear something about talking to a tax expert about income and SS...

Serial, have a good time and enjoy. I've known people who were so into their career that it became their identity, the work defined them. When they retired they lost their sense of self and worth. Most of them ended up sitting in a chair waiting to die, and often that didn't take long. I'm betting that won't be a problem with you, and the idea of consulting would cover that transition even if it were a problem. I'm counting the days until I retire, obviously you've earned it! |

Congrats, and color me green with envy also!
I’d say you’re lucky - but I sense there was a lot of hard work, knowledge, skill and determination involved. Therefore - good job. Always glad to hear of a fulfilling career coming to a graceful close. Or, in the case of consulting - a graceful transition. If the consulting thing works - it sounds like you’ve entered the “extra bonus round”. I hope I can be so lucky someday too. Cheers!!! |
